@birdofafeather: @skipra: Thanks ladies! I just learned that I walked REALLY late - 19 months - so I guess I won't be surprised if DD follows in my footsteps.

DS started rolling front to back really early (6 weeks) but at first could only do it in disposables. Eventually he figured it out in the cloth diapers. We use both BG 4.0 and Freetimes. He started crawling around 6 months and walking at 11 months. Certainly not delayed at all.

@GreenThumb: i had the same worry when she was younger, but she started crawling at 7.5 months, standing and cruising shortly after with her first steps at 9.5 months and her working on walking at 10. so our BG 4.0s haven't slowed her down!

@scg00387: Thank you! Glad to hear that most folks don't think cloth had much if an impact!! I'm so happy to be using cloth for so many reasons and didn't want this to be a major negative.

@GreenThumb: I'm not sure what the normal milestone range is for walking; but my LO has been in cloth since he was 2 weeks and he's walking exclusively at 11.5 months. He does move better naked, and definitely prefers knit/stretchy pants to jeans, but was crawling at 7m and cruising at 8 so it's never held him back. I will say if I put him in a Flip with an overnight insert, he walks like a cowboy (I usually use Flips with flats inside so pretty trim). I wouldn't sweat it.

@Baby Boy Mom: I know, it's true! Disposables haven't been around that long! I was a cloth diaper baby and I'm fine  !

@GreenThumb: Don't worry! :) You are giving her the gift of a chemical-free booty. Snappi-ed prefolds are even more limiting and that's what we used for a long time. Remember back in the day everyone used cloth....

@autumnlove: As my good friend always reminds me, isn't it amazing and wonderful how different they all are. I wish I wasn't concerned about meeting the milestones "on time".

@MerryC: Rethinking the inserts is a good suggestion. This little lady has really chunky thighs, so she is really packed in there with the think insert that comes with the 4.0s. She can't lift her little legs very much:(.

@GreenThumb: She was 14.5 months and she wasn't confident until she was 15 months. But maybe it was just her and not the diapers!

We didn't start with 4.0s until about 6 months, but my kids hit all their milestones appropriately, including walking at 11-12 months. I never noticed a difference. If you are concerned, you could try stuffing the diapers so they are less poofy. There are a million different inserts and ways to fold and layer them. If I want a trimmer fit (like for photos or something), I stuff mine with one thin mcrofiber insert and one hemp vs. my typical multilayer microfiber setup. They also make inserts called loopy-dos that are an all in one micro amd hemp so its super trim and super absorbent.

@autumnlove: That's interesting! But she did get the hang of it eventually. How delayed was she in walking (if you don't mind me asking)? I wonder if I should try out some different kinds… I just stocked up on the 4.0s. The Elementals are more flexible?

@Baby Boy Mom: Thank you! It is probably just first time mom worries. I'm glad to hear that the diapers didn't slow them down too much. I hate to think I'm limiting her just because of my diaper choice!

Yes, I'm convinced it delayed her walking! I put her in more flexible Elementals when she was finally taking her first steps!

Yup I noticed this with both boys. They have a bigger range of motion diaper free, but I wouldn't worry about it. They figure out how to do the same things with the diaper on after a little while.

My LO is 5.5 months and has been in cloth diapers (BG 4.0s) since she was about 4 weeks old. We do a fair amount of diaper-free time and I notice that she has a much greater range of motion when she is diaper-free and actually only rolls (back to front) if she is sans diaper. And she loves being on the changing table because she can get her feet in her mouth. Has anyone else noticed more limited movement with cloth diapers? Is this a concern for development? I love cloth diapers, but I don't want her to have any delays! Thanks!!
