We were down to maybe one or two? Feeds by then. We had nights with one and nights with two and she began sporadically STTn a month later. I can't remember how big she was but she was 8 lb at birth

Enjoy it!!!

We have a tiny baby. Only around 11 lbs at 3 months and prob around 13 a week before 4 months. But she dropped her night feed at 6 weeks on her own and now manages to sttn consistently.

i had two big babies too. we sleep trained for falling asleep, but I would nurse them if they woke up completely at night. LO#1 dropped all night feeds at 3 months (12 hr sleep) and LO#2 dropped all night feeds at around 5 months. I think go with what seems right for you, but at that age/weight I felt comfortable letting them sleep :).

My ped told me at 4 months and 15-16 lbs to drop night feeds. I yelled "hallelujah!" And started weaning that night! But at that point he only had one waking at 4am anyway.
I felt the tiniest bit of guilt too, but the earlier you do it the easier it'll be. And once you are getting a full night of sleep you'll be so glad you did!

@Mamasig: thanks - that's good to know. I will probably wait a bit and see if he drops it on his own.

DS1 was 10lbs 9 oz at birth, and he dropped all his night feeds at 4 months. He did it himself and STTN (10 hours - he's never been a 12 hour sleeper). I don't remember exactly, but I think he was around 18 pounds at 4 months. Little brother dropped his night feeds and began STTN at 5 months and around 20 pounds. In my experience, weight has nothing to do it. It was all developmental. But I don't sleep train.

@loveisstrange: did you feel that she needed that one night feed? At around 15 weeks he was only waking up once to feed but I'm a little reluctant to eliminate all feeds!

My daughter was 16lbs at 4 months. She started dropping night feeds at 2 weeks old. She was waking once between 6pm and 8am by 4 months.

@MenagerieMama: it was so true for him. When he started crawling at 7 months, he went from waking 2-3x/night to once a night. Two days after he started walking he STTN and has been great since. DD is almost 6 months and seems to be following her big bros footsteps, both with energy level and sleep! Boo! Haha

Erm, LO is 19lb and 6 mo, EBF and still wakes up to eat twice in the night. She seems so hungry and goes right back to sleep so I haven't had the heart to night wean her, I'll let her decide. She also eats every 2-3 hrs during the day...

My son wasn't quite as big at 4 months but he was well over 15lbs so our pedi told me to stop feeding him at night. I wasn't ready to do that (and never got on board with sleep training) so he didn't sleep through the night until 9 months. For us, STTN coincided with DS starting to walk. He had, and still has, a ton of energy and until he was able to move more he wasn't sleeping well.

DS is 4 months old and 18.5 lbs. His ped said he is *definitely* ready to be night weaned (I am breastfeeding, no bottles) and should be sleeping through the night. I feel like it is too early!

If you have/had a big baby, when did he drop night feeds, and who initiated it?
