I set up a floor bed in his room before nap time and intended it for bed time (packnplay was still set up). DS got so excited about his bed he didn't want to sleep in the packnplay. We haven't had any problems, he doesn't even try to get out of bed in the mornings.

We kept our toddler in his room and made the other bedroom the nursery. I didn't want him feeling like he was getting kicked out of his room. Both rooms are the same size so that didn't factor in for us. We got him a big bed and he helped me pick out his new bedding. When he saw it all set-up he said "this is the best gift ever!" and ran to it and climbed up and started jumping up in down in excitement! It was a great feeling knowing he was excited about the big boy bed. We pushed it up into a corner so that he is protected with the wall on one side. So he steam-rolled over to the wall and back and said "look I won't fall off if I roll this way!"

We also went cold turkey and it worked out fine. He was very excited about getting to use his "big kid room" and has never looked back!

We just went cold turkey with bedtime sleep. Our 3yo rarely naps anymore at home, so that wasn't an issue. We'd been talking about it for quite a while, and she got to see it when we bought it. She was pretty excited. So far, no issues.

I would probably go whole hog and do everything in the new room. Any time we have had a transition like this, we just get really excited about it, which gets LO excited about it and we've never had any major problems.

So we are planning on moving J to a big boy bed (a double mattress on the floor) which will be in the next room so we can keep the nursery for a nursery. Baby #2 is coming at the end of May and we want to move him over so he won't feel like the baby is taking over his room (I hope).

Anyway, we are going to do it over his birthday/Spring Break in about two weeks. If you moved rooms for your toddler, did you start with naps? Cold turkey in the new bed/room? Did you read books on the new bed as part of your night time routine ahead of the big move to start easing it in?

Just looking for some suggestions :)
