@Mrs. Turtle: Feed her!! That’s how DS was and our pediatrician expressed zero concern. FWIW he never did take more than six, he just started taking six early!! He was sucking down four ounces of formula and whatever I could eek out of breast milk at two weeks!! He was 21 lbs at 6 months, and a happy healthy chunky monkey. Always has been above 90%.

Thanks, all. It's funny, I felt more confident about these things before having so many foster babies. I think when they're fosters and you know their brains are wired a little differently due to trauma, plus you have 194628 social workers all giving their input, you start to doubt even the simple things.

Sounds normal to me. I think at this age they don't eat for pleasure, just in response to their hunger cues, so you don't have to worry about overfeeding. My LO also eats a lot, and is big for his age. The ped seems pleased by this...

My DS is also 4 months and getting 6 oz bottles, and has been since we switched to Alimentum. He is finally comfortable enough to eat well and it has made all the difference in his attitude. He is tiny but I still think 6 oz is totally fine for any 4 month old!

I’d just feed her what she needs. My DS2 was always off the charts in weight and height and we fed him until he was satisfied. He was like your daughter (I think @20lbs at 4 months.) My pediatrician is a super skinny health freak and even she was like feed him what he needs. He is 2 now, 37 lbs and wears size 3t/4t. He is pure muscle and is losing more of his baby chub. He still has an incredible appetite though (and is my adventurous eater).

@Mrs. Turtle: Ahhh... let the baby eat what she needs. My girl was off the charts for weight. My older pediatrician says things like "let her be picky.. its her way of thinning herself out." Its terrible. (She is thinning out.. but gees.. kitchen is never closed and girl can eat any time she wants). I really don't think infants know how to over eat. They will eat what they need, and maybe puke up a little after if they get too much. I don't know if that is correct way of thinking. But I breast feed on demand and pump like a maniac to make sure my girl has more than enough bottles when I'm at work. So give your little baby what she needs!

@Mrs. Turtle: if you’re following her cues, you’re doing everything right! Sounds like she’s happy with 6oz... go with it!

Oh, good. I think I live in the land of ultra old fashioned parenting. Our pediatrician still won't use the word reflux or dairy intolerance, just insists she has colic. Despite the fact that she is basically totally happy now that we switched to Nutramigen. He also gives me a hard time EVERY SINGLE TIME about how big she is and how much she eats. I feel like saying, "Given what she's been through and the prenatal exposure, can we please just be happy she's thriving?!"

My BF 4 month old is that size. He regularly drinks that amount and is over 30 ounces per day. I say if 6 oz bottles work, use them!

Maybe I’m misinformed but I thought six oz bottles and 25-32 oz per day was normal.

@Mrs. Turtle: I combo fed my son, and actually used bottles a lot even with BM. My son was a big baby too, @ 4 months he was 27" & 17 lbs 10 oz. I fed him 6 oz bottles fairly regularly starting at 14-16 weeks, maybe not every bottle but most bottles. If they're hungry, they're hungry.

Anecdotally, when my son was fired from daycare at 9 months for "needing too much one on one time" it turns out that a lot of his fussing and crying was being hungry/not quite full. I by no means think our daycare provider was starving him, but she was feeding him more than the other 2 kids within a few weeks in age of him... But, when we went with a nanny she would let him eat until he was full (she had our whole pantry available vs the pouches and milk I dropped off weekly/daily at daycare) and he was eating upwards of 3 more pouches a day at home, and he wasn't having any "behavior" problems.

Some of it could have been the one on one with the nanny is what he needed, but I think a lot of it was he was hangry, like his momma.

@Mrs. Turtle: Seems within the range of normal to me! If she's happier, that means a lot!

N will be 4 months on Wednesday. But she's in 9m clothes and weighs at least 17 lbs or so. She's over the 90th percentile for height and weight. I've had her on 4 oz bottles for a while. Everyone still says she's young, their stomachs are small, feed often and feed smaller amounts. BUT, she's really only happy if I give her 6 oz. She'll tolerate 4, but fusses afterward like she's mad it's done. I finally gave in today and just did 6 oz every feeding. She took much longer naps and was hardly fussy at all, even during dinner, when she's usually at her fussiest. She just went down for the night easily without any fuss. Can I just feed her 6 oz? She's the size O was at 10 months and I wouldn't have thought twice about that (although O never willingly ate 6 oz at a time). Total ounces for the day ended up at 30 (bottles at 6, 10:30, 1:30, 4:30 and 8-she sleeps through the night) which I know is high, but she's SOOOO much happier.
