We used a full sized futon with a bed rail at first, now we're in a traditional full bed, with bed rails on both sides. Example - you need to stay in your bed and sleep so that we can go to the beach tomorrow. She says ok and then is back out at the door in 3 minutes. We needed the crib for DS, we were moving him to his own room, so DD needed to get out! I was so ready for a fight but she did AWESOME! We haven't too many issues. Then at age 2.5 we moved her mattress onto an actual bed. The toddler mattresses are pretty tiny, I think it would be worth a try to get a larger bed. I needed the crib for baby #2. I made a big deal out of it and took her bed shopping. I ended up ordering the bed online so she didn't actually pick out her bed, but it got her excited about it. She didn't want to stay in bed on day 1, but that was it. The transition went well! My daughter (2.5 - will be 3 in October) currently sleeps in a toddler bed (was her convertible crib with the front railing removed) but sleep is rare these days. She tries every trick in the book at both nap time and bed time and it takes her hours to fall asleep. I'm wondering if it's because she's feeling cramped? When did you move your toddler to a big bed? Any suggestions would be awesome :-) </p>
