@Jennibenni: We got ours online at Sleep Ez. We bought our mattress there about 1.5 years ago and still love it so decided to get our kids' mattresses from them as well. Only downside is you don't get to test them out first. We got all of them with their 100% natural Dunlop latex only because the Talaylay is mostly synthetic.

We got Simmons Beauty rest (fairly firm bed with a bit of a pillow top for both boys - one is full sized and one is twin sized). This is the current model of the mattress (though it had a different name when we bought the full sized 2.5 years ago). The idea is for them to have these mattresses for a long time. DS2 will probably end up in a full down the road and DS3 (who isn't born yet) will take the twin when he's ready for a bed.

@travelingnanny: is there a certain brand or mattress he recommends? We'd either be purchasing online or from a major retailer

We've been looking at this too.. i'm tempted to get the Nook Pebble twin mattress for DD. Part of the issue is I need something 6" deep or less for her bedframe.

We also looked at the essentia (too soft) and naturepedic 2 in 1 Organic Cotton Ultra (it's very expensive in Canada). I don't mind paying a bit more as long as she can use it until she moves out!

@skipra: Where did you buy them? I've heard of latex but haven't come across any in person in our area.

I am a nut about off gassing so no memory foam for us. And it's funny you posted this because we just bought 2 mattresses today. We got firm natural latex. The latex won't grow mold or other nasty stuff if there is an accident and it gets wet.

@travelingnanny: cool job!

We just did regular twins for our older two. Cool from Costco

For our guest room queen that will be my daughter room we did a sleep number.

He says you want something with a heavy gage inner spring or a solid foam core. He made my nanny kids their mattresses and they are amazing. What area of the east coast do you live in? Maybe we could work something out.

My husband makes mattresses for a living and would not use a memory foam mattress because it is too soft for their growing skeleton.

We are going to purchase a Full bed for our guest room, and will move it into DS's room in 12-18 months when he switches from a toddler bed to a big kid bed (and then at some point our guest room will become a nursery for hypothetical baby #2).

What kind of mattress should I get? Is memory foam ok for kids? Should I get something inexpensive for now while it's a guest bed/little kid bed, then upgrade when he is bigger and heavier?

On this thread: http://boards.hellobee.com/topic/do-you-have-one-of-those-fancy-mattresses#post-586302
I saw a reco for a mattress on Amazon that's a great price, but it's memory foam... thoughts?
