@PinkElephant: yeah, basically it prevents the bucket dumping. An under the bed type container would probably work too :) And that probably stores easier haha

@Mrs. Lion: So basically they just use it to rummage through looking for parts w/o spreading them everywhere? I feel like I could do something similar with a large-ish, flat sterilite plastic container, and switch out what toys are in there. The sides really make sense.

@PinkElephant: We have a ridiculous amount of Legos :) but yes, the little ones probably would. I think the structured sides contain the mess a little more than a rug would, so you dont need to clean it up as often :)

@Mrs. Lion: This is genius! We don't have quite THAT many of any one thing, but I wonder if they actually might sit in it and play in one spot! At least the younger ones might!

Not the same, but we put a kiddie pool in the playroom for the legos. It has been a HUGE help. We play with legos daily so it doesn't bother me that it is out all the time. They sit outside of the pool, not inside, but it does a pretty decent job of keeping them contained. We just pick up the ones that migrate to the floor (in theory) after they are done. Really it's like once a week when I have time to nag them about cleaning the playroom :silly:

I've been debating this for when we get DS (5) Legos. Right now he and little bro (2.5) just have duplos because I don't want to be picking up tiny pieces and they spread while playing. I think older brother would actually play and build with them in the circle by himself. He gets clean up issues. But when playing with little brother they get really into pretend play and everything winds up everywhere.

@ALV91711: @MrsSRS: We tried it this weekend using a muslin baby blanket. It worked to some extent; once I left the room and they got more into their play, the pieces scattered anyway. what stayed on the blanket DID make cleanup faster; I guess I was hoping they'd see the benefit (fast clean up) and like it, haha.

I think it would only work if they played ON it like a rug. Do you think they would stay in one area like that?

Something like that would make things quick & easy. I feel like I’m forever after DS to put away the little toys!

Following! My baby is going to crawl relatively soon and my older kids have so much tiny crap. My 4yo is especially bad about not keeping it contained!

Does anyone use one of those playmats that turn into a drawstring bag for their big(ger) kids' tiny toys? Things like Legos, or LOL dolls and their 8 billion tiny parts? Is it actually helpful?

We're having some ongoing tidying up struggles, and I'm wondering if something like this might be helpful. I wouldn't use it as long term storage for any one item, just as a quick way to gather and dump a collection of toys back into it's proper box; ensure we've got all the little shoes and things before we vacuum, etc. I am thinking that if the kids realize how easy it is, they might contain their mess a bit more/scatter their toys a bit less.

I'm talking about something like this:

https://www.amazon.com/Whale-Life-Container-Organization-Organizer/dp/B07CZYKF7F/ref=sr_1_9?keywords=play%2Bmat%2Bbag%2Bpink&qid=1552654681&s=gateway&sr=8-9&th=1
