@hellocupcake: haha! i thought the same thing! maybe less people will show since it's in december. ;)

@MrsStar: happy birthday to e! let us know how it goes!

@HLK208: presents and cake with just DH and parents actually sounds really nice! we may have to do that on her actual birthday since her party is the day after. ya, stranger anxiety is my main concern. i don't want dd to be have a meltdown with everyone loving on her on her day! were your lo's able to enjoy it even though they had stranger anxiety?

We did a small party with about 15 adults. There are no other children in our immediate family yet.

We're not there yet, but I'm planning on keeping it small, since it's not like LO cares, haha! Just our parents, siblings, and nephew. Once we start throwing in our grandparents and aunts/uncles and cousins it quickly jumps up from 11 people to almost 30, which does not fit my idea of small. And I want to be able to have a good time and relax on his birthday - but I know me, if I'm planning a party for that many people I'll stress over all the details.

We did small for both kids. With DS, DH and I just spent quality time with him and did cake + presents with my parents. With DD, we invited our families (around 25 people). Both kids had bad stranger anxiety at the time.

We have to do bigger by default since our families are big and would be offended if we didn't invite them. I'm hoping maybe only 50 will actually show up since it's in December (: I love the idea of a small, fancy, dinner party...it is mostly for the parents, right? (:

@chopsuey: ya I think I'm going to try and keep it to 25-30 people too. I was overly excited and wanted to include everyone but I'll probably do bigger parties when she's older and can enjoy it!

@dolphin: DD's was small. Just close friends and family. I think 25 total including us.
DS' will be a little bigger. Inviting 26 adults and about 10 little ones.

So originally I had wanted to throw LO a big first birthday bash. Around 50 people or so. But now I'm starting to rethink it and wonder if smaller is better (just close friends and family), so around 25 people. Mainly adults, very few kids. I guess I'm just concerned TOO many people might be overwhelming for LO. Right now she is going through a stranger anxiety phase, where she just cries when people she doesn't know holds her, so I don't want it to be stressful on her. Of course, she may outgrow it by then too. Did you have a big or small party for your LO's first birthday?
