I've been in your shoes and we planned a trip to Hawaii. It turned out fine because I wasn't pregnant and was still TTC. I'm so glad that we didn't NOT take our trip because it was worth the vacation! After a miscarriage and then some TTC troubles, I am so glad we didn't stop living our lives including vacations out of fear of the unknown! Hope that you guys go to Europe and have a blast - pregnant or still TTC :)

It's hard to predict if you would get morning sickness or not, but in general, the first trimester meant a lot of slugishness and sleeping for me. I would have made a trip regardless, we went to Egypt when I was about 7 weeks pregnant, but I was feeling fine and got the ok from my OB.

I had a good friend who was TTC during a big trip to Europe, they've joked about naming their unborn child either Edinburgh or Dublin! The only issue she had in early pregnancy while away was trying to buy a pregnancy test in an Italian pharmacy!

@kml636 - I'm going to Paris and Barcelona for 2 weeks also. I was in Italy and Greece in 2010 and LOVED it. I stayed mostly at b&b's to really get immersed in the culture. You're gonna have a blast!

Oooh sounds fun! I say go ahead and plan the trip. I worried about taking several vacations and big events thinking I would be pregnant...turns out it took a little longer than we'd hoped and I never ended up being pregnant on those trips/at those events.

Also, I had a really easy first trimester (went to a wedding one weekend and Vegas another....) so you never know, you could be pregnant and have a fabulous time anyways : )

Agree with everyone that you should go ahead and plan it, but get insurance. I went to New Zealand weeks 10-13 in my pregnancy. Now I was one of those very fortunate women who never dealt with any real nausea. However, I did have some nasty food aversions, and we didn't get to do a lot of what I wanted to do that was more adventure-y because of my condition. But it was still a blast.

I agree with all the above posters: go ahead and plan the trip, but invest in some travel insurance just in case you end up wanting to postpone.

I think you should go ahead and plan your trip. TTC is just too unpredictable to wait. I have flown a lot in this pregnancy and been fine, but I didn;t get sick at all so maybe I would feel differently with MS.

@KML - I completely understand how you feel as I'm in the same boat! Been TTCing for 7 months now and am planning a trip to Europe in Spring/Early Summer. It seems like there are a lot of what ifs to be concerned about...jet lag completely messing up my "sensitive" cycles, feeling nauseous if I do get pregnant in the first trimester...etc.

I want to go on this big trip before LO is born. I plan to still go ahead with booking the trip, but get travel insurance in case something comes up. Like pp mentioned, we shouldn't be putting our lives on hold. Good luck :)

That’s a hard one because everyone’s bodies react to pregnancy differently. I do agree that though that you shouldn’t put off life and big trips because you might be pregnant at a point in the future.

I flew early on in my pregnancy twice and both times were torture – I literally had my head in the airsick bag (well, multiple bags) the entire flight (and it didn’t get better in the second trimester for me). I can’t imagine a trans-Atlantic flight – but then, some women fly with no issues. I was also so exhausted and sick my first trimester that I wouldn’t have been up to going on long walking/exploring tours at all, so I wouldn’t have been able to really take advantage of trips to new places. Again though, some women are fine, and don’t get that sick, or that exhausted. Unfortunately, you don’t know ahead of time how you’ll feel. :/

I would probably go ahead and plan for the trip, but maybe look into getting some sort of insurance for a refund or date change if you are early on in your pregnancy and super sick when you were originally scheduled to go.

Good luck!

I don't think you can plan your life around whether or not you will be pregnant. I say go for it! When you get busy living your life and not stressing out about getting pregnant, cliche as it is, that's when it happens. You can always buy travel insurance and cancel if you're too sick to go!

Hi ladies, after suffering a miscarriage, my DH told me we could plan a big trip to Europe this June.

Well, I'm all for planning it to have something to look forward to while TTC, but part of me can already hear everyone telling me if I do get pregnant that it's a mistake. (I would be between 1 - 4 months along, depending when I conceive). I DON"T want to put off my whole life while TTC since it can take awhile. But, I don't want to be sick and on a cruise ship not enjoying this very expensive trip, or worrying about it the whole time.

Anyone have any advice?
Thank you!
