I grew up in a rural town and we had a Christmas Tree farm with 18+ acres. We currently live in the suburbs and have .5 acres, which is a lot for our area but still feels small to DH and I. I am pretty sure it's smaller than my Husband's childhood homes too. We rent now and this house is MUCH smaller than any place I ever remember living. But my parents had me in a small apartment and then condo before we moved when I was about 2. So those could have been about the same as where we live now. DH lived in a small 2 bed/1 bath place with his parents and 2 sisters until his parents added on when he was 10. No yard, maybe a small patio, not tiny places, but definitely smaller than our house. I was an only child until I was 18 and by then we had a 3 bedroom condo, then my parents bought a house. I think our house is fine for two small children, but I feel like we will need more space as they grow (or if we have another). We've now just bought a house in England where the houses are a fraction of the size of American houses, and ten times the cost, so until we hit it big, we will not be having an American sized house over here!
