if it reassures anyone, I had a horrible, horrible tear (she literally FLEW out..no cone head, and her head is gigantic!!) and though it took a few weeks to feel normal, motrin helped! after the first couple days it wasn't unbearable. it's not as scary as you'd think..i took a look and things look normal :)

Besides serious health issues with the bebe, I was most scared about laboring for hours upon hours and not being able to deliver and then needing a c-section after my body was so exhausted and worn down. So, I just scheduled a c-section. Honestly, the mechanics of a c-section seemed a lot less scary to me than the mechanics of giving birth. Yikes!

I was also terrified of hemorrhaging since my mom hemorrhaged after me and could have died.

Aside from the obvious baby-related fears (baby won't be OK, something will happen to him), my biggest fears are:

Induction
C-section

like many others!

Currently, I have a lot of fears about it - episiotomy, tearing in general, ring of fire, epidural, placenta birth, c-section, puking, pooping, etc.. But I have 26 weeks to get over it and relax about it so I'm hoping that happens!

I'm terrified that the baby will be in distress, or that I will need an emergency C-section, something like that. Before I got pregnant, I was worried about how I could avoid pooping, but now that I am, I'm really more worried about something going really wrong :/

I was always afraid that my baby would come out looking like an alien or distorted. It was weird! But I also had recurrent dreams that I gave birth to a kitten so that may explain the weirdness.

@Mrs. Blue: That would suck. I have heard though that it is better to have a baby via c-section after laboring as opposed to a scheduled c-section, because the labor prepares the baby for birth and it isn't such a huge shock to them.

I was scared of tearing but mostly terrified of a stillbirth. I was also scared of the possibility of a c-section-- more specifically, the anesthesia involved. My MIL claims she was put under general anesthesia for both her c-sections so she was "asleep" but she remembers everything, could feel everything, but could not talk or scream.

I had horrible anesthesia experiences (3 failed epidurals with first, dural puncture with second which turned into spinal headache and a blood patch) but honestly, I am so so so thankful to look back and know that both my deliveries were awesome for my babies (not even any meconium or cords wrapped around anything for either!!) and I'm VERY HAPPY that I'm done. Quit while you're ahead, right?? ;D

I was terrified of something happening that would cause the baby to die during birth. Placental abruption and cord prolapse terrified me. None of the gross/pain parts really scared me- I knew it would be worth it as long as LO was safe and healthy.

I can't even think about any of the super bad stuff...so really I know there are lots of worse things than episiotomies that can happen, I just can't go there.

My bff's daughter aspirated meconoum and was in the NICU- full term - for weeks.
And I think sherry from YHL had both a placenta abrupt ion AND a cord prolapse - it's basically a miracle that she and Clara ended up OK.

@oliviaoblivia: lol that was my biggest fear until I was actually in labor and then I just didn't even care anymore!! You are more concerned with getting through each contraction and getting the baby out than anything else that happens!!! I didn't poop while pushing but I felt like I had to the whole time and at that point I wanted the pressure gone so badly I didn't care if I did or not!! haha.

My biggest fear was not being able to deliver at my birth center - which ended up happening because I had pre-e. I was upset I couldn't move during labor, or have a water birth or anything so that totally sucked. I had a great experience overall though...

I think for my next one I'm scared to get pre-e again.

I was petrified, absolutely petrified, of LO having the cord around her neck. I know 1 in 3 babies have the cord around their neck and it's not usually an issue, but I was terrified of it. Fortunately, it didn't happen.

I was also terrified of tearing - but with an epi, I never even felt my second degree tear, nor did I feel the stitches afterwards. Recovery was pretty easy as well.

Now with future children, I am petrified that I'll have to have a c-section. Before DD was born, I thought I wouldn't mind having one if the situation required it, but now, knowing what I'd be missing out on (actually pushing her out and getting the immediate skin to skin time), I'd be devastated and scared out of my mind if I had to have a c-section.

Have you ever read Young House Love's birth story? She had a placental abruption and it horrifies me: http://www.younghouselove.com/2011/04/claras-birth-story/

Anything dangerous for the baby. Ripping aft to stern doesn't sound pleasant, but my main concerns are that she dies in childbirth or something equally horrific. The pain/gross aspect of birth doesn't really phase me too much.
