@birdofafeather: I think we're going to look for a rooftop hard box, but most likely we'll get cargo bags to put on the roof rack. We can put our luggage stuff up there, and then do bikes/stroller in the car for now. Our needs are going to be changing so much in the next few years that it makes more sense to invest less money now. I realized we'd have to install a trailer hitch on the van for most of the compatible multi-bike racks, which puts this at way more money than its worth investing in!

i cannot believe i'm a person who is outgrowing a minivan. my younger self is just shaking her head in judgmental silence. in my defense, its literally once a year that this problem arrises (so far).

We don’t have a van but use a rooftop cargo carrier and a bike rack for camping trips when we need more storage. My parents plan on borrowing both these items for their van when we go camping this summer. We have a Yakima carrier and a Kong trunk bike rack that I don’t see available anymore.

what kind of extra cargo/bike storage do you have for your minivan?

We are not hardcore bike people but at least one a year we go on a trip where we want to bring kids bikes, a double stroller, etc. and when our kids are older we probably do some tent camping trips which are also gear heavy.

Next summer we will have a third kid, so we will need to leave a seat in the back row down. So far we can get everything in when the third row is down but soon we will lose that option.
