@lamariniere: My son is 27 months, but small (24 lbs) so maybe that's why we haven't had problems with it? I like it better then the behind ones because I feel like it lets him see more.

We have a trailer that goes on DH's bike. DH and LO both liked it a lot this summer (we didn't start using it until she was almost 2). It feels plenty safe but we only used it on paved bike paths, with maybe a few low traffic streets to get from the house to the bike path. It did take a few tries for her to really like it though, and lots of snacks. And the bike helmet kind of pushed her head forward until I put a folded towel behind her back. Just FYI.

Then our bikes were stolen so now we have a trailer but no bike. :crying:

@erinbaderin: We had that for our first LO. It went on my bike because it didn't fit right on my DH's. I only liked it when my son was very small (like 1 year), as he got bigger I felt very off balance with it.

My personal preference is a rear mounted bike seat. We have one from a brand called Hamax. However, you'll want to check weight limits, my son was too heavy for ours by about age 3.5-4. I've never tried a trailer, but we live in a city and the thought of using one makes me uncomfortable, but I bet it would be nice for areas with less traffic, or dedicated bike paths.

We have this one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0065UTOWO/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?qid=1461090386&sr=1-3&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65

I can't speak to it personally, because it's on my husband's bike and I've never used it, but he really likes it and my son loves it.

LO will be one this summer and we hope to start biking with her. Does anyone have any experience? I'm looking for advice on whether you prefer a trailer or a seat, and what brands or products you've found to work well.

We will probably mostly be riding on paved bike paths, some hills but nothing too strenuous. Looking to both run errands around town and go for longer rides (20-30 miles) eventually.
