I don't, and I didn't receive gifts from most people who I sent one to. Like someone else said its more like my Christmas card list- people who I sort of want to keep in touch with but don't call or email on the regular. I did receive a few gifts after we sent out LO1's announcement though- like 3 or 4 that I wasn't expecting.

No, a gift is not an automatic response. A text or call to acknowledge the announcement arrived is nice though.

I don't- most of the people I have gotten them from are friends to whom I have given a gift at their shower. I sent out some when I had DD (and will do so again with baby #2) because I have a lot of family who isn't on social media and I wanted to include them. Since I sent it to some people, I figured I may as well send to everyone.

@youboots: @bluestriped bee: @coopsmama: @rattles: @Alba4: Thank you for these responses! Phew. Okay. So I'm not going to send a gift. And I also won't feel badly if I decide to send out any announcement of my own. I hate to appear gift grabby since I just had a wonderful baby shower over this past weekend.

If I did not go to the shower or send a gift (I usually send gifts if I am unable to make it to the shower) I may bring a gift the first time I meet baby, but I would not send due to an announcement.

No, I don't. Usually I already sent something or the person is sorta distant and not very close. Most people were the same people that I send Christmas cards to. So same people who are close enough to get a card but don't necessarily exchange gifts with.

No, I don't. Usually if I've received one I've already been to a shower for them or something.

My instinct is to say no, I don't. But when I think about the announcements I've received over the last few years, they've all come from either good friends to whom I've already planned to send gifts or to local mom friends for whom I made a dinner postpartum. So I don't think you have to, but I guess I have in practice.

If you feel like you want to do a little something, maybe just send a kid's book instead of a card?

Not necessarily... I tend to send gifts only to close family members and friends.

If you receive a birth announcement in the mail, do you send a gift? We just got one in the mail and now I'm wondering if a responsive gift is the norm.
