@caffeinated: I could definitely alter the target ones I already have. I had considered them as runners but I love the idea of them over the kraft paper!

Also no, there will be less than ten kids there but I know the ones that will be there would love it.. though I'm sure the adults would too!

@chopsuey119: we're doing all of our own food and the menu is pretty simple and straightforward- nothing too extravagant! so that will definitely be $50 or less.

@mrskc: @Mrs. Cowgirl: @regberadaisy: @zippylef: @Foodnerd81: OMG LOOOOVE that idea!!! soo much!!

Okay here is the kicker: I called my mom and she still has all of the cream colored tablecloths from my wedding that are the exact size of the tables at our venue - I could use those for free, or do your AWESOME idea and pay for the butcher paper... which one wins?!?

Okay and option number 3: a couple months ago Target had these yellow paper-like tablecloths on clearance (like smurfette suggested) - I have 4 of them already, so I'd need about 6 more and they are $4 at target for other colors/patterns. So I could alternate colors of these tablecloths on each table.

Thoughts? I may have to create a new thread to enable voting!!! haha.

I was also going to suggest butcher paper or something like that. I think that would be really fun at a first bday party. It could also be worth keeping an eye on wedding classifieds-- I got 6 90" round tablecloths for my sister's baby shower for $30 including shipping, just by keeping an eye on the wedding bee classified section.

I like the idea of the branches in mason jars and going from there. I agree that food is more important than decor, especially since people will be taking in the nice view.

@Mrs. Pen: how about butcher paper or big kraft paper to cover the tables? you can include crayons in your color scheme in the centerpieces and have the guests and little ones draw on the tables? it might even be fun to cut out any salvageable drawings/doodles and include them in a guestbook or scrapbook from the party!

I think tablecloths would look better. What about craft paper as a tablecloth? You could even leave markers or crayons out for pp to draw on it or draw on your own decor. Is renting tablecloths an option?

As far as he branches, do you have a tree you could cut branches from?

I would buy paper/plastic table cloth.. And either skip the center piece, or maybe get glass mason jars, gather some branches from trees in your neighborhood and hang the animals from the branches?

I think spending money on food is more important than decor.. :D

@prettylizy: that's what I was thinking of doing - using chevron fabric... but I still think it'd be expensive. It's $7.50 a yard, and we would need 8 yards even just for runners so it'd be $60... :(

I cnant believe cobi is almost 1!! I really like the center pieces shouldn't be hard to make and looks like you can do it for pretty cheap. Personally I woulndnt leave the tables plain but I wouldn't spend money on fabric table cloths I would do plastic. But I know you don't like the look of them. What if you found ones that were nice and heavy duty plastic with a pretty design on them, would that change your mind at all?

6 weeks until Cobi's first birthday!!!

We went to the venue yesterday so I could visualize decorating - it's a great space with lots of windows and the walls are painted a deep blue and a forest green. It's at a nature center, so we're doing a modern woodland animals theme (bright colors instead of rustic: chevron, yellow, green and blue with owls, hedgehogs, foxes etc).

The tables are rectangular seating 6 people each and I cannot decide how to decorate them. Buying fabric tablecloths would be really expensive and after paying for venue and photographer I only have about $200 left for food and decor. I don't care for the look of plastic tablecloths.

Should I leave them plain??
Here is the space we rented and the tables they use.

Next is the centerpiece I would LIKE the use but having trouble finding - it's colorful but fits the woodland theme.

Should I just leave the tables plain except for the centerpiece and focus more on the decor around the room? And any ideas for centerpieces? I was thinking a branch/tree centerpiece and hang animal tags from the branches (each table a different animal) but I can't find short stocky branches like the ones in the photo below so I'm afraid if I try something different it won't turn out. Please help!
Thanks!
