@artbee: I love the idea of a 50s party, I'll have to keep that in mind if I have a girl!

I am really excited to get to throw a big party for my LOs 1st birthday. I love to plan anything & I also like to craft & work on D.I.Y projects. I do think that the internet has completely changed children's birthday parties though! But I like it because of all the amazing ideas & inspiration (hello pinterest!). I think the internet has also really changed weddings & other parties as well. I don't know if I will go all out for all of her birthdays but do think I'll always have more fun with it by crafting & having a theme then just a cake & birthday banner that was my birthday parties growing up. I completely understand the pressure though & think sometimes the most beautiful parties are the simple ones :) You don't have to have a crazy big, fancy party to make it beautiful & fun!

I'm excited to go all out for my LO's party because it's fun for me, not because I "should." I love to craft and DIY. Plus, I feel like if I do DIY I'll be able to have a nice party with a low budget.

Plus, my mom always went all out for my parties with a lot of DIY stuff and it made them really special. One of my favorites was a 50's diner theme. She made aprons that said "Artbee's Diner" and everybody had money with my face on it to buy their food, which was on a menu that my mom designed, burgers, shakes, etc. Everyone came dressed in their poodle skirts. It was so much fun!

Culturally we do big to dos for 1, 5, 10 and 16. I will probably follow that pattern although I see no reason whay it has to bethis crazy expensive affair. A bunch of kids, some face paint and a ton of food and music.

Seriously! There's so much pressure to throw these amazing parties for kids these days! We're throwing our LO a really nice 1st birthday, but 2 and beyond will just be regular parties with her friends. 16 will be a big one though.

I'm not planning on having extravagant birthday parties for our lo.

I feel like the internet has really blown out of proportion baby and kids parties because you can see all of these amazing ideas and creative go-all-out events. Sometimes I get this feeling that if I don't do an amazing party like these I see online, I won't be a good enough parent! I try to put this into perspective that there is really just a small number of people who actually spend the time and money to have huge parties with big gift bags, food vendors and professional photographers. Not everyone does this!

Does anyone else feel this way, too? Anyone else for the good ol' days of pin the tail on the donkey, some party hats and a cake with ice cream? :)
