Only one side is local but parties are usually on the weekend. Her first we had a big family party but 2nd and 3rd were just immediate family. I think as she gets older depending on what kind of party it may or may not include family like grandparents and uncles.

I think we'll alternate between family and friend parties. The first two years were parties with just family, and this year we had a party with his daycare friends.

This year we are doing a small friend party and then the next day will do a family party. There is 30-40 for family so they have to have their own party. We are telling the grandparents if they want to come to her friend party they are welcome too.

Depends on the party. Some are family only, some family and close friends and some include everyone!

So far our birthday parties are mainly full of family from both sides. We also invite our friends and their kids. When they're older we will probably have more friend centered parties.

We don't live by family but if we did we would have family over on their actual birthday and then a friend party on another day

At this point we just do small family parties. But as he gets older I think we'll do a friends party at a fun venue and then a small family party at home with dinner/cake.

When I was growing up I usually just had a small party with friends, but my mom always made it special. We didn't have family nearby, so that wasn't a factor in how many people would attend.

Now that I have kids, we have a lot of family nearby (15 immediate family), so our birthday parties for the girls have been getting rather large when we include their friends (and subsequently their parents). I feel like it's getting harder to find a place to host everyone so I'm thinking of making a switch to just having a super small pizza/cake party with family on one day and then doing a small party with her friends on another day.

How do you do your birthday parties?
