@Mrs Green Grass: Ooh, I love that idea. And I was thinking about hiring a few of my middle school students to come help out in case parents don't stay. I was thinking that they could monitor how many kids are in the bounce house, but it would be awesome to have them each lead a group for the scavenger hunt.

We do a lot of park parties and I invited the whole K class last year. Every kids favorite thing (and I stolethe idea froma friend) was a scavenger hunt. it doesn’t need to be hard, but you leave a clue, then they run around and find the stash and fill up their goody bag at each station. One kid said “this is the best party ever!” We also had the bounce house and playground for activity. But it would be fine without a bounce house too. They do get crazy sometimes. For my scavenger hunt I printed pictures about dogs, like a bone and a collar and just taped them in random places with a tray of stamps or slap bracelets or stickers....I had 5 or 6 total.

@Chuckles: following because we are in almost the same situation. We did the same thing last year with the bounce house and it was fine but I knew all the parents and they stayed. This year I’m pretty sure we will just have it at a place (she currently wants a gymnastics party). I just don’t want to be responsible for kids I don’t really know.

My son is turning 6 this summer. Last year we had the party at home, and it was very casual. We rented a bounce house in the backyard and ended up setting up a sprinkler because it was a million degrees out. Inside, I set out watercolor paints and paper on a table as an inside activity. It went super well and there was plenty to entertain the kids. But last year I knew all the kids pretty well and almost none of them were especially rambunctious, plus the parents all stayed.
This year we are planning to invite his kindergarten class. I'm up for doing something similar, but I'm worried because I don't know the kids very well and some of them are quite "spirited" . I don't know how comfortable I feel giving them the run of the house. I would guess that even if we try to block off areas, a few kids might go exploring anyways :) Also, even with the activities I listed above, I'm picturing the kids just running around wild and needing a lot of wrangling. I don't mind a little chaos, but I don't want anyone to get hurt or anything to get broken. Has anyone hosted a party at home with a bunch of 6 year olds? What do you think about this plan? Thanks!
