On my son's daily sheet, it was written not to pack lunch (unless you wanted to/needed to) because the birthday girl was bringing in pizza or whatever to celebrate. Since it was the day before, I didn't send a gift. BUT - this is the child's first year in childcare and the mom's other son never went to childcare. So she wanted to do something special for him by sending out invitations. It sounds like she may come and decorate the room. </p> <p>I think we're going to buy him a little book and slip it into his cubby (wrapped). I'd send a small gift from my gift stash or a couple books, but still think invites for a daycare bday party are rather unusual. We have daycare "parties" but really it's just snack time and the bday kid passing out favors to other kids, not receiving gifts lol. My friend's daughter's daycare has parties where the norm is for the parent to cater a full lunch, rent a bounce house, and bring favors, but even with that no invites are involved and so the kid doesn't really get gifts. If we got an invite it was because that was the only party the kid was going to have, so the expectation was that you would bring a gift. She picked out a craft and I took the craft and treats in at snack time. We also put little goodie bags for the other kids to take home in their back packs. At our daycare they celebrate birthdays. Parents send cake for snack time and some parents even do up little goodie bags.
