@looch: Good idea! And I can easily fit a couple more breasts into the crock pots with the whole chickens.

@lindseykaye: I was thinkiing you would get more meat if you used a few breasts plus some bone in pieces, rather than 2 chickens, after you pull it...or maybe do 2 whole chickens plus an additional 4 breasts?

@looch: Chips - check! People will probably also appreciate them for the dip so that is a great addition. I'll pick up a few bags of salt and pepper kettle chips.
And for the chicken, do you mean serve whole chicken pieces or buy the bone-in and pull it as I planned to do with the whole chicken? I don't think I'll have the ability to cook whole pieces in advance (hence the use of the crock pot) in a way that they'll serve nicely. But I could certainly pile a whole lot in the crock pots and still shred it up for serving on sandwiches/with cornbread.

For drinks: we'll have beer and wine for adults, sweet and unsweet tea, lemonade, and water. For the kids I will have juice boxes and boxes of milk (they're all over a year). Should I add soda for the adults?

I like chips with my pulled pork sandwiches, maybe add a couple bags of those?

I might also be tempted to do chicken breasts and a mix of bone in chicken pieces, rather than while chicken, you'll get more out of it, I think.

Otherwise, sounds good!

@locavore_mama: Thanks for the suggestion on the rolls - I lowered the count due to the choice of cornbread but you are right and people may want multiple of each! And yes, they're smaller, but a bigger than I would call a slider.
The roast is 7 lbs. I can buy another on Friday if needed. I have three crockpots at my ready and was doing the roast in the big guy, and one chicken in each. During the party I'll have each meat pulled and warming with the beans in the third. And there is a single vegetarian, good friend. Everything is veg-friendly except the meat (I'm putting the bacon on the side of the popper dip).

Sounds delish!

Any vegetarians?

More rolls. At least one per adult and older child. I would even do 1.5x so people don't feel bad about grabbing two sandwiches. Especially because you have pork and chicken some might want one of each. I would get the small rolls, is that what dinner rolls are?

How big is the roast?

This sounds perfect! I am also not a great judge of how much to plan for with a party, but you have so much variety that people will find something to eat. I am always in the camp of overdoing it rather than not having enough food, but then I always kick myseld afterwards.

It sounds like you have a perfect menu! It's going to be so much fun!

You all are the best. I'm glad it sounds like enough (for over-cookers, too!) because we would much rather eat leftovers than not have enough. I would actually LOVE for there to be leftovers so I can not cook for a good while after the marathon that will be preparing for this party.

Getting so excited! I can't wait to see all my favorite people and eat all my favorite foods :D

I just went through this and posted about our party, freaked that I didn't have enough then WAY overdid it! We are still eating leftover party snacks.

So DHs family has large get togethers like this frequently. This seems like a good amount of food. A little extra meat and mac and cheese will be good to have on hand.

This made me really hungry.

I'm not a good judge on amounts (and I don't eat meat).
But I want to come to your party and eat a bunch of baked beans and cornbread and mac n cheese! Sounds like a delicious spread! :)

We're hosting LO's 1st birthday party at our home this weekend. I'm gearing up to do all the prep and most of the cooking on Friday when I have off work. Before I hit the store and have to return because I didn't buy enough, or cook far too much food could the party-people of the hive chime in and let me know if this sounds good?

We're doing the party over lunch and about half attending are coming in from out of town.
I am expecting about 30-40 adults and there will be 3, 1-year olds and 3 kids in the 5-8 range.

Large pork roast, slow cooked and pulled for bbq sammies
2 whole chickens, slow cooked and pulled for sammies
cornbread (4 box mixes baked and cut into cubes)
dinner rolls (32)
Baked Beans - crock pot full
Macaroni and Cheese - two pans
Succotash
Cole Slaw
veggie platter
fruit platter
relish tray
jalapeno popper dip + cracker chips
banana/jelly and banana/pb sandwich cut-outs for kiddos

Do I need another chicken? How much jalapeno popper dip should I make? I'm a planner and a list-maker so I am attempting to get organized so I don't freak out on Friday when I'm standing in the grocery aisle trying to do math :)

ETA: There will also be brownie bites, strawberry-vanilla birthday cake, and cookie favors (peanut butter and wheaties rangers).
