I think 3 is a bit young. My 4 y/o got a trampoline for her bday and it makes me nervous (grandparents got it). I don’t think the time frame is an issue.

DD1 went to her first bounce house party at 3 and she was fine. I think it’s a little on the young side unless they have a toddler jump area.

I would actually like a 9am start if it was local. My kids are up before 7 anyway and during the week we have to be out of the house to daycare so are used to it. Maybe consider whether or not most of the kids are coming from households where they’re used to getting to daycare in the AM, or if most are from households where they’re used to sleeping in a bit later.

Edit: We called our insurance carrier to clear getting the trampoline. It was a gift from my parents as I had one growing up. It was very easy to regulate when I was a kid, even though it had no net (no one ever got hurt—it’s a miracle). We just had rules and they were followed. Unfortunately I’m not such an imposing force as my dad so we’ll see how that goes.

All the people worried about injury - is it collisions that concern you? The trampoline place we go to is a whole lot of small trampoline squares connected by padding and the rule is only one person per square, so injuries never really occurred to me.

There's no way my kids would be on time to a 9 am party... they wake up at 7 but breakfast takes forever, and there's usually also the commute. I do know people who have no problem with early mornings at all.

We had a 9 am party on a Sunday at a play place once (they only did private rentals at that time) and we had great attendance. We had no issues getting a full crowd and Sunday is much less convenient than Saturday.

No, we wouldn’t take them to a trampoline park due to the risk of injury.

@Purpledaisy: FYI in case you wanted to invite friends and neighbors to play. trampolines are a large liability risk. Some insurance carriers will exclude liability from injuries resulting from them and some won’t take the home at all.

Trampoline parks make me nervous for that age too- but we did bring my then almost 4 yo to a bday party held at one. If I was on the fence about going to trampoline part would maybe sway me from going. The 9 am thing is early and I might show up a little late just because I’m always running late but it wouldn’t bother me.

That said I do prefer bounce houses- seems a bit safer and my kids actually prefer them anyway. 5 would be fine as long as you have dinner.

It is a little early for my taste but we would still go.

It wouldn't bother me at all that it wasn't private.

I'm surprised at all the hate for trampoline parks! My 4.5 year old loves them and we are actually getting a 15 foot trampoline for the backyard for Christmas!

@JCCovi: I said yes, but it depends on the relationship with the birthday boy. If it was a family member or close friend we would attend a 7am bday at the dentist.
Out of trampoline and bounce house, I vote bounce house.

@JCCovi: bouncy houses I'm ok with as long as it's just little kids.

As for the trampolines, I'm more worried about my son hurting someone else. He's a big boy and doesn't always realize how much bigger he is than other kids. If he were to collide with someone there could be injuries.

@erinbaderin: I'm with you in that my kids love trampoline parks and I figure some risk is ok. I was thinking of serving bagels, but I don't want to have the party there if no one is going to come :(

I'd have to go out about a month and a half before the "good" places start being available. I might just have to rent a room at the community center, but that isn't any cheaper and I'd be on the hook for all the entertainment.

It looks like I’m the outlier, but my 3 year old loves the trampoline gym and 9am would be no problem for us. It might be hard logistically for you, though, because what do you feed people at a 9-11 party?

Could you do a family thing on the actual birthday and then have the party a few weeks later?

I don’t have a problem with 9am (kids are up early!) but a trampoline park for my 3yo makes me a little nervous. He does a trampoline in his gym at school but it’s very “regulated”. Like one kid at a time and there’s always an adult sort of spotting.

I would do a bounce house thing like you mentioned at 5pm as long as dinner was provided because that would be a lot of rushing around if it wasn’t.

For those of you who don't do trampolines, would you let your kid go to a party at a place that has nothing but blow up bouncers? I could potentially do a 5pm party there.

I think the time and the age restriction is fine. I'm just not comfortable with my child (3) going to a trampoline gym at this age as it's so bad for their bones (she's fractured her ankle at a place like that and the doctor said it's super common and not advisable at this age)

So apparently I put off planning DS’s 3rd birthday too long and everything is booked! We only do parties for odd numbered birthdays and DD’s 3rd was a blow out, so I really want to make this one good too!

Would you go to a party at a trampoline gym if:

1) It starts at 9 in the morning (Saturday)
2) The jump time isn’t private, but it is restricted to children 6 years old or younger and their parents.
