@PinkElephant: Thats a good thought! We will be serving the food indoors and have an accumulation of chaffing dishes to use to keep the food hot.

I think tacos are the easiest in the sense that they can be served room temp without being totally gross (depending on the fillings you choose). Pastas/meatballs/sausages are more likely to congeal or get gummy if they aren't eaten right when served, and with 55 people I susoect your guests will be grazing/eating at different times

I vote for taco bar. People can customize it however they like. It's lighter also since the weather will be warm, but still filling.

For LO's 2nd birthday we're planning a party at my parents house because they have a pool. The theme is ice cream social so we have the desserts figured out (sundae bar, cake, fruit) We're working on the food menu.... we're inviting 55 adults and 13 kids (will most likely have 40/10 attend) with one family of 5 that's vegetarian. My dad does not want to spend the day grilling.

Option 1 - Sausage/pepperssandwiches, Meatball sandwiches, Pasta Salad, Deviled eggs, etc Hot dogs in a crockpot for the kids

Option 2 - Taco Bar - rice, wraps, chicken, beef, veggies, chips, salsa, salad, gauc, dips, hot dogs

Option 3 - Pastas - Baked Ziti, Veggie Lasagna, Meatballs

thoughts other ideas? What goes good with ice cream? I had thought burgers and dogs were the best bet but dad said no way, plus the grill makes the yard too hot and smokey.

The Veggie Family (husband, wife, 3 kids) is a coworker of my husband I've only met a couple of times, they're super nice and laid back, but I want to make sure I have something that appeals to them (and others). So vegetarians please chime in if there's something I can add that will be a hit
