Thanks everyone - you've talked me into pizza and cake! It might be unnecessary, but since I'm the person who always offers people way too much food when I host parties/gatherings, it'll be exactly what everyone's expecting!

@Rocker2014: we just did this and did the pizza. The kids ate it. We also brought fruit and veggie platters and bought a sub sandwich platter. Actually I think by the end the cake was what didn't get eaten as much!

We just did the exact same thing on a Sunday from 2-4 and did cake and pizza but only for the kids (I think three pizzas for 20 kids). I figured adults weren't really going to be expecting anything and no one complained. A couple adults did eat the leftovers.

I feel like you can definitely go either way, but you should definitely say what you are serving in the invitation so parents know what to expect.

I voted ice cream and cake, but after reading the responses I’m leaning in favor of pizza now anyway. Have them double cut the Slices so there is less waste on the kids plates.

Pizza cut in tiny pieces. We were at a similar party last weekend and it was only light snacks. Several of us stopped by a playground on the way home and a mom had a pizza delivered because the kids were starving. The kids devoured it (8 kids, one medium pizza).

Wow - apparently the responses are just as varied as my thoughts on this subject! You have all given me a lot to think about. I think I'm leaning towards pizza and cake right now, which I definitely wasn't earlier. I may see if they can cut one or two pizzas into half slices (so 16 to a pie) so that kiddos who may only take a few bites wouldn't waste much - I think that's what they do when they order pizza at daycare.

(and the ice cream would be provided by the venue so I wouldn't have to store or scoop it!)

Last year, LO had her bday party at this art/barn place. They did art crafts in the barn with animals. So not as much activity as a jump house but they did run around a little bit. It was from 2-4 so I did just snacks. I put it on the invite as “ please join us for cake and light snacks after the painting. We had cakes, veggie platter, fruits, cheese platter, and pirate booty bc it was a princess and pirate party  I wrestled with serving pizza too but ultimately did not bc we had bday dinner plans afterwards with the grandparents.

I voted just cake. You are in a neutral location and you mentioned there will be other snacks for the guests. A group of 4 year olds are going to waste so much pizza if there are other snacks. Also there’s no way I would be lugging ice cream, scooping it out and trying to keep it frozen. Keep it simple.

I voted for cake and pizza too. Same as many above, more/too much food is a better problem to have than not enough food especially if it's something you can cover easily despite the vendor restrictions/cost.

After all that bouncing it would be nice to have something non-sugar based and substantial. Plus I know for my crowd that parents appreciate the pizza sometimes more than the kids!

Have fun! Sounds like a great party :)

@Rocker2014: I voted for cake and pizza. I always prefer a party that has pizza because my kids dont really eat the dry snacks. I think most parties have cake or icecream but not both since they are both desserts. I think its simpler to just have one. Is icecream cake and option? @Rocker2014:

You can never go wrong having too much food, but if people are hungry they might leave the party with a slightly negative feeling. My mom told me it's always better to have more food than you need for a party than to not have enough. I still remember my godsister's wedding, which was catered by her bio mom. There was not nearly enough food, and we all starved. It's one of the few things I remember, and this was over 20 years ago XD

I was literally just in this position a month ago for my daughters birthday - same type of place and same time. We chose to do just cake and snacks. I felt like everyone was looking for food and we didn't have enough (we got plenty of snacks, but it was almost as if everyone was waiting on the pizza that never came). I felt so bad. If I could do it all over again, I would've sprung for the pizza.

Just went to this kind of party on Monday from 1-3. Kids had pizza/cake (and they even had donuts) and they put out a veggie platter for adults. I did see most kids eat the pizza, probably b/c they expended so much energy playing; but I think I would've also been fine with some dry snacks and I would have just made my girls a plate each to eat before cake. We all ate lunch before the party and my husband and I didn't eat anything, just cake.

Please help me make a decision, I can't figure out the right thing to do! LO is turning 4 next week and we're having her party at a bouncy house place nearby (indoors, multiple bounce options - very cool place for all ages!). The party is a Sunday afternoon from 1:30 - 3:45pm. Bouncing is first, until a little after 3pm, and then we have time in the party room for food, etc. We're having cake and "dry" snacks (like Pirate Booty, cheese-its, fruit snacks - all the venue will allow) and I'm trying to figure out whether I should serve pizza as well. The venue won't let you bring in food, you have to use their provider, which is pretty expensive. Additionally, we're looking at at least 30 people including adults, probably closer to 40. I'm fine with spending the money, but with the timing and the activity I'm not sure it makes sense to do so. Every party we've gone to has had pizza or hamburgers/hot dogs, but they're almost always at a mealtime or at someone's house. The "main course" food is rarely eaten, even at mealtimes, but cake and snacks are devoured. Ordinarily I'd serve filling snack-y items like cheese sticks and fruit, but the venue is really strict about things to preserve their equipment. Another option would be to serve ice cream in cups with the cake...

Please help - what should I do? I'm lost in indecision!
