I tested positive at 8DPO, but I also tested a few days before (I felt so "off" that I wondered if I had gotten my o-date wrong) and I just reminded myself it's not over til I get AF. If you can see a BFN as a "maybe" and not a hard negative, then go for it. If you're going to be really torn up about a BFN though wait until at least 10DPO or when AF was due to test. I wouldn't want to ruin a birthday. I did test at 8DPO (I was very certain about ovulation too so I knew I wasn't any earlier then that). By 10 dpo, it was obvious and I also got a digital BFP that day. I would suggest waiting so that you can enjoy your birthday.
