we are doing a 2-hour in-home hypnobirthing class because DH and i don't have the right schedule to go to the other classes provided. we'll see how helpful it is in january!

We've been taking the childbirth classes offered by the hospital. The classes haven't been really useful to me. I've done a lot of reading/prep work already, and there have been multiple times where the teacher says something that doesn't agree with the research. It feels a lot like we're being sold on procedures, honestly.

We also signed up for some other parenting classes (child safety, child care, and breastfeeding) that I expect will be a little more helpful!

Yeah i think we're just going to do the online class, then. We already are doing a hospital tour, so we'll get all that info. And it'll be good for DH to learn some of the stuff but the class here is almost $100 and it just seems like I'd rather take the free, online class, and then we can go out to dinner :)

The hospital's website is pretty comprehensive, too. They just opened up the new maternity ward and they're all L&D suites.

I guess if my doctor feels like it's suuuuper important, we'll do it :P

I'm doing the hypnobabies homestudy course, but if there was a hypnobabies in-person course around here, I would totally go!

I didn't find it useful, but it was good for us as a couple and dh has a first time dad to go to both our all day childbirth and 2 hour bf class. Luckily our cb class was only $25 and bf class was free!

For moms though, even FTMs, I think we probably know 99% of the stuff before we walk in to a cb class.

We registered for an 8-hour class, ours was only $60. We haven't gone yet so I can't attest to how useful it is (also obviously since I haven't given birth yet). But I'm totally an information hog so this kinda thing is right up my alley. It's at the hospital, so I'm hoping it will give me a better idea of what the experience will be like at this particular hospital.

I found the class really helpful. It was through the hospital we were giving birth at. The nurse who led it gave us lots of tips about what we should make sure to ask the nurses to do for us, how the individual doctors handled different things, and we also got to handle some of the tools that might be used like the epidural tubing, vacuum, etc. she also walked us through what would happen step by step once we got to the hospital (go to L&D, then to triage. Triage is boring, bring a book, they will ask you lots of personal questions, so don't have anyone you aren't comfortable with in there, etc)

We did an 8 hour class on a Saturday to get it over with in one day. I found the hospital tour most useful for me, as it helped me feel more prepared knowing where I'd be delivering. I think the class itself was more beneficial for my husband since he had no idea what to expect. I think it was worthwhile.

@blackbird: I found them useful and so did my DH - BUT - he left with a total fear of whether he'd freak out during labour! And he's in the medical profession so I would never have thought that before! The most useful parts for me were the pain relief info and the demo of things you can do to naturally ease pain, ie massage equipment you can make yourself.

I actually didn't take any classes and after giving birth, I didn't regret it. They were really expensive and my doctor gave me all the instructions I needed to push and manage pain before the epidural. I'm glad I saved the money for something else! But just my experience.

We took a prenatal wisdom class with our doula. A lot of the info was stuff I knew already, but it was a great venue for DH to get in the know without me having to beat it into him. I also felt super empowered after I finished my classes, definetely made me ready to tackle childbirth.

We just did an online class that our hospital offered. It was an "at your own pace" type format that came with a book with all the info as well. We could get a hospital tour as well, but I actually delivered early and never made it to the tour, which was fine! It was perfect for us just because we were really busy to try to fit in a longer class. The information was helpful too and it was so nice to be able to take the class while sitting on the couch in my sweats :)

Our hospital offers birthing classes. 2 hours/week for a month or an 8 hour class on a Saturday. And it's expensive!

I'm not really keen on seeing the videos and stuff, honestly. I'm kind of tempted to take one of these online classes: http://www.babycenter.com/childbirth-class so I can skip over the stuff I'm not interested in.

Frankly...I'm in the "let my OB call the shots" camp. I trust her implicitly. I have no control, I've accepted that, and I sort of just want to wing it since I can't really "plan" for it anyways. And goodness knows I can google enough to figure out what to expect, anyhow.

I want the cliffs notes class :)

Did you find your birthing class particularly useful? What part(s) of it?
