I would only if it became infected and saw that it wasn't healing properly. Id probably go to the pharmacy and make sure I'm cleaning it with a good product and see what they say.

My son was bit during a mother's morning out program, and it barely broke the skin, but I didn't think to call the doctor. I might have considered if it looked infected, but it healed quickly.

This is different, but I was bitten by a dog a few years ago (just broke the skin) and was given a tetanus shot and a course of antibiotics.

I would call the nurse hotline at the pediatrician's office and ask if I should bring him in.

I agree we try to limit antibiotics in our house. So I would not feel comfortable going on a round of antibiotics just for a bite that was immediately cleaned and kept clean. Its not like there is a chance the kid had rabies.

I wouldn't unless it looked infected. Standard procedure is for teachers to wash/clean & bandage a bite, so I'd assume it was clean. Also, it sounds like the bite was through clothing (which, holy bite Batman!) so there's not really a chance of saliva getting into it.

I would take my LO to the doc if it looked like it was infected, but otherwise, no. I think antibiotics are often over prescribed, and usually unnecessary. Sorry this happened - our LO has been on the receiving end of 4 bites so far.

I would clean it and put a bandaid with neosporin on it. Unless it was a major wound, I wouldn't take him to the doctor.

I would probably spray with bactine at home but nothing else. We had one like this (on the leg, through pants) and we just watched it to make sure it healed okay. My kids are also bandaid addicts, so I'd probably try to cover it for daycare.

I would not unless it truly looked infected. I hate when Dr's prescribe antibiotics unessesarily. That's what's creating all of these "super bugs"

Our oldest had a bad bite just a week ago at school--the skin was broken. There was actually a chunk of skin bit out of her finger. But the school nurse put the wound cleaner stuff on it and gave her a bandaid, so I didn't do anything else. it's totally healed now.

@T.H.O.U.: yes. I ended up talking to a friend this morning who is a peds nurse and she said because the mouth has so much bacteria in it, when they see a bite that breaks the skin they usually want kids on antibiotics to prevent it getting infected.

Over 4 years in daycare my kids have been bitten before and it's never really been a big deal, but never so bad that it broke the skin (and she had pants on).

What would you want a pediatrician to do? Prescribe an antibiotic ointment? I would assume for something small an OTC ointment would be fine.

My son got bit last month. They cleaned the wound and let him rest and it didn't bother him, even though the site looked pretty bad. They took it very seriously and talked to the kid's parents. We just figured its going to happen.

DS got bit on his cheek and it left a nasty bruise and a small scratch. I didn't even think to bring him in. I definitely would if it looked red or swollen after a few days. Bites are the worst ☹️

No. If the skin was still broken when I picked her up I'd disinfect and apply a band aid, but I assume daycare already did that and it's probably scabbed over.
