Ok so it's not just me this is happening to! My little also thinks its funny when I sternly say no. Hopefully this will pass soon. In the entire I suppose I will just start to pump more and offer milk in his sippy...

My LO drew blood before... and when I corrected her she thought it was funny! UGH! She definitely bit more when she was not hungry and just playing around. It was the worst thing about nursing!

Others had great replies but I wanted to add that when he bites you should give him something he CAN bite - a teether. Biting feels good on his teething gums.

"Ouch! We don't bite mommy's breast/shoulder/arm. Here you can bite your teether!"

I find that Xander is more likely to bite when he's just about done nursing or just not interested in it at the moment! I always immediately pop him off and tell him "no biting" and then we'll either switch sides (I always nurse both sides) or we'll take a break. He's gotten me really good a few times, but I think it's getting better...

around 8 months LO went through a biting phase during nursing--it was usually when he was about done and slowing down so i would stop the sessions. now, at 10 months, he does not bite during nursing anymore, but he does still bite us sometimes and has bitten other babies at daycare. at this age, we tell him "gentle touches" and "we don't bite our friends" like they do at daycare (or sometimes we just say "OW!!!" from shock) but he's not really comprehending right now. hopefully it will sink in.

Agreed. Mine has done the same several times with his new teeth. He also thinks it's funny when I say no sternly. Grrr. I'm hoping its a short phase too!

Definitely just a phase but unfortunately it is a rather unpleasant one! Your LO should settle down once he adjusts to having his new teeth but in the meantime keep taking him off the breast when he starts to bite (so he understands that biting has a negative consequence) and try watching him closely when nursing so you can catch him before he strikes!

Ok so my nearly 9 month old really bit me this evening while nursing. He just recently had his top two teeth pop out (and also has the two on the bottom). Ever since the teeth starting coming in he has occasionally sort of bit/nibbled a few times which was uncomfortable but this was a real chomp and it really hurt! My husband said he bit his chest earlier this evening too while lying on him. We have said NO firmly and I took a break from nursing when he bit. But then when I tried to nurse again he did it again! He also bit down on my shoulder while I was trying to hold him and calm him down.

Is this just a phase while he is adjusting to his new teeth? Is there something else I should do to help him understand not to bite?
