I literally screamed in his face and unlatched him. We were both so scared that he didn't do it again.

Before we got our DD's lip and tongue ties fixed, she'd bite me all the time and she didn't even have teeth--it HURT! She doesn't anymore, but I am terrified that once her teeth come in, she will try them out on me.

@NerdBee: haha that's funny.

Well tonight for his bedtime nursing he bit me twice and the second time I flicked his cheek. He cried instantly but since he was nursing he stopped crying. He didn't bite me for the rest of the feeding.

@coco bee: yikes! I would feel tense too if I knew I would be bitten but didn't know when.

Oh! I just remembered something that worked for a friend. When her baby bit her, she unlatched him, said "no biting" and lay him on the floor and walked out the room. He cried of course but quickly learned that biting would result in an end to the nursing session and he stopped biting soon after.

@NerdBee: I could tell that today he was biting just to test it out or have fun. He wasn't doing it because he was done, and one time he did it, his mouth was full of milk so I know the flow wasn't slow! I think he just started to realized he can bite his food now too :-P Many times he was biting even at the beginning of his nursing sessions.

I'm starting to get really nervous while nursing and tensing up because it's the last thing I want to do. I'm so scared!!

My La Leche League told me the same thing about pushing him in to the boob when he bites--that pulling away and saying, "No!" doesn't work.
I don't know yet. He has only done it once.

My little guy tends to bite when he's done or my flow is too slow. So I watch him carefully when he's nursing and as soon as I can feel some tension in his jaw and I can feel him start to bite down, I stick my finger in his mouth to break the latch and remove him from my boob.

He used to bite every single time and when I told him sternly "no!" he would grin at me like it was a game! But since I started to take him off before he bites, most of the time he will pop off by himself when he is done instead if biting.

Ouch! My oldest didn't cut his first tooth until 11 months and I have weaned him by then. My second, he doesn't have teeth yet at 6 months but, boy, does he unlatch rather abruptly and painfully at it sometimes! He'll just "pop!" off real fast and usually he has a good bite on it before doing so which is why it hurts. I might have to wean when he starts to get teeth b/c I'm afraid I might not have a nipple left. :P

LO doesn't have any teeth yet, but she has started biting me when she's done with that side. It's more of a gnawing, actually. It's awful. I usually end up yelping or drawing in a breath really sharply, which gets her to let go just as effectively.

LO did it for like 3 days a couple weeks ago. The first time I screamed and scared the crap out of him and he bawled! Then I did what your ped said and gently pushed his face into my breast. He'd bite again 2 seconds later, but after a couple days he just completely stopped.

I am dreading this! LO is starting to get his first tooth. He has a habit of pinching and pulling at my breast if I don't have something for him to play with. He pinched me so hard one time he left a bruise!

@T-Mom: @autumnlove: that's what I've heard too, and obviously I want to avoid a nursing strike. I've noticed a few times he thinks it's a game, and laughs like it's funny - especially when I sternly say no.

@T-Mom: yeah, he tends to do it toward the end as well, but he usually starts getting drowsy so I don't cut him off.

My LO only has one tooth that came in almost 2 months ago and he hasn't bitten me yet...but I'm nervously waiting for it to happen! The advice I was given was to do exactly what you said...unlatch him and sternly tell him "no biting mommy."

Oh, can still feel the little teeth even though I'm done nursing! I found that wearing a necklace helped LO to be distracted... And also paying attention to when he was done and just sucking for fun.. That's when he tended to bite. I made the mistake of yelling out a few times when he bit me, and he got scared and went on a nursing strike so after that I started calmly (or as calmly as I could while enduring intense pain) saying "no no, we dont bite mommy " and pulling away. The pushing fwd trick never really worked for me!

Cobi has had teeth for two months, but until a couple days ago he hasn't bit me. Now he does it for EVERY feeding. He does it so hard he leaves teeth marks on my nipples. It hurt so much I started crying just now.

The pediatrician told me that when he started biting to pull his face into my breast so that air to his nose is cut off and he would unlatch himself, then learn that it's an unpleasant consequence to bite..
I have done that a few times, but he's still biting. And quite honestly my reflex is to pull him off and tell him no.

Has anyone else had experience with this and what did you do?
