@caffeinated: hahaha...so true! Garbage bags, tinfoil and cardboard are pretty darn cheap! We were so sleep-deprived when I ordered them that my dh didn't argue with me :).

@Sammyfab: DH looked at me, looked at the price tag, and then looked at me again. You want to pay $60 for something garbage bags do? Sigh.

I remember mrs. jacks mentioning paper black out shades from Home Depot and we use those. They are only $7 each, and i use two to cover both windows. Love them!

Hope you find something that helps! My dh loves them because of the wonky hours he works!

@scg00387: weird! I'm guessing because it does get really warm if the sun shines directly on it. Our blinds are also discoloured from the sun. Otherwise, we do leave them on all the time and we've had no major issues! We're going on two vacations this month and bringing it on both trips.

@regberadaisy: Kohls has them that wide. We bought ours online for $15 each panel a month or 2 ago while they had a sale going on. So cheap compared to everywhere else we looked, and we liked how they looked better than anywhere else we could find too.

I got blackout curtains YEARS ago because they were the only ones I liked. I was AMAZED at how well they worked. I got mine at Target both times (and both times were 4+ years ago) and they look and work great. Mine are light colored and have white on the back, I was thinking "blackout" meant they'd be dark but they weren't. Definitely check Target! I bet Walmart/Bed Bath Beyond might have some too.

You may be able to find blackout fabric on sale at a fabric store. Depending on your curtain set-up, you could just clip it to the back of your curtains/sheet (if you use ring clips). I think YHL did something similar.

I bought a pair from babies r us during a bogo sale. I really like them. They're thick and keep LO's room dark. I would definitely buy another set.

We got the ones from Target or Walmart (I can't remember. I think both stores sell the brand. Eclipse or something). They work well and were inexpensive. We just use one panel per window instead of two so they lay flat.

They have actual black out curtains for kids rooms at Target. I don't think they're really that expensive, either.
