We actually made a point not to. We have energy efficient curtains and standard, cheap shades but that's it. Plenty of light sill makes its way through. My parents made my room as dark as possible as a baby and young child. Because of that, if I was tired and there was light coming in where they wanted me to nap, it wasn't gonna happen. Even to this day it had to be pitch black for me to sleep.

I didn't want to deal with that with LO so we didn't black out her room. So far it has paid off.

Yes but LO still wakes before the sun every morning. We have honeycomb blinds with foil inside. It seems like keeps a lot of heat from coming through the window on hot days.

Yes. I tried just having room dimming shades and she was just sleeping terribly. I just have really cheap paper like ones from Home Depot- redi-shade, about $8 each, and they work so so well. I do agree that I think it's a little harder for her to fall asleep other places but she actually does ok.

yes, she has one. I think it's helped - the one time I was scatter brained and forgot to close the curtain, she didn't fall asleep for over an hour..finally went in, closed it, gave her a hug and laid her down and she passed out.

yes and it seemed to help.....but then we needed to put an air conditioner in the window, so we can't cover it with the curtian so for nap time it is still not 100% dark, but he still naps pretty good. I wonder if he would sleep in later in the mornings though like @Crisark: !!!

Yes, and it was one of the best decisions we've made! I'm pretty sure they are responsible for the extra sleep we've been getting in the mornings (she used to get up between 5 and 6, now she regularly gets up between 7 and 7:30). She also falls asleep easier at night and for naps, and her naps have been longer (that may be due to her age though).

The only downside for us is that she can't sleep at daycare at all, and I wonder if it is because she is now used to sleeping in the dark. But she was a terrible daycare napper already, so now she is at least napping better on the weekends at home.

We LOVE our blackout shades! We even have them in our master bedroom. They greatly helped with napping!!

We also have really loooong days here where the sun doesn't set until well after 10pm and the sun rises before 5:30, so they're super helpful for nighttime as well.

My little guy needs them for the morning. Our bedroom faces the rising sun and as soon as it got bright he was up. I fought with 6 am wake ups forever. Then we did the blackout curtains and our lives were a million times improved. He slept until 8 am again. His room probably didn't need them.

We haven't put them up at the new house but we don't seem to get the direct light in the rooms either. He is sleeping just fine.

If so, what was the outcome? I'm wondering if its worth it or not.
