I was thinking that @mrskoala! Especially because you get 2 sizes to try. I'd probably end up in something way prettier than my normal dress and it wouldn't be overly expensive. Their dresses are gorgeousss!

@psw27: I throw this one out there a lot but have you thought about maybe doing Rent The Runway if the original dress doesn't work? They have some "bump friendly" fancy pants options and they can usually get you a dress pretty quickly. Standard delivery usually takes a couple days but you can pay for next day delivery if you want it. Just a thought!

I was thinking that @kjpugs - maybe just find a more flowy black dress that I can wear during and after the pregnancy.

the wedding is "black tie invited" but I know the bride and groom, and they are fancy pants so they will want tuxes on the guys and girls in fancy dresses. Its definitely an err on the side of dressy kind of wedding.

Thanks @mrskoala and @illumina I'm thinking I will wait and see if my go-to dress looks decent. I know everyone is different when they start showing, especially in these first 12-15 weeks.... so we'll see what happens!

I have a wedding 8 days after my due date, so I'm guessing I would need a maternity dress still for that (if I even go.. which seems doubtful haha). I could just buy a black dress and wear it to work but dress it up with jewelry for the wedding.

I agree it depends on how you're built. I wasn't "showing" at 12 weeks but I felt bigger for sure. I had more weight around the belly though to start with.

To me, black tie is a REALLY fancy dress, usually long. If you can wear a maternity dress multiple times during your pregnancy and it's still appropriate for black tie, then I say get one! Otherwise, I think just get a simple black tie dress that has a little extra room in the torso how it's cut. I was in my sister's wedding at 12 1/2 weeks, and I wore an empire waist dress- I had the extra room and no one would be able to scrutinize. A non-maternity dress that's built to be more forgiving in that area would be great not just for a good part of your pregnancy, but also post-preg. You may bounce back in a snap, or you may be like me and um... NOT. haha! It's good to have looser items like that for PP time.

Congrats! And good luck finding something!

At 12wks I wasn't showing, but I did have a little extra chub around my belly to begin with. I would leave it as late as you can to find something.

Hmm this is a tough one because some people really do not show at that time and others do. It all just depends on many factors including body type. Personally, I was not showing at that time and could fit in all of my pre-pregnancy clothes (except jeans).

Do you have any other weddings this year that you could use a maternity dress for? If so, then it may be worth it to look into other options.

I have a wedding coming up at the end of February, and I will be 12 weeks along at that point. I have no idea if I will be showing or not. I have a black, satin strapless dress that is my usual "go-to" for black tie weddings. Its not overly tight through the middle but I just keep imagining the shiny satin pulling at my "not quite a bump but looks like I've gained weight" belly... (assuming that is what I will look like at that point, who knows!)

Any advice on what to do about a dress? Should I just wait until the week before and see how things are progressing? Is it worth investing in a sort of basic black maternity dress that I can dress up and wear numerous times or is 12 weeks too early for maternity wear?
