I just went to a wedding and went through this same question. I looked at mine for nine and they had some good options, but once I added in shipping, it was only an extra $20 to buy the dress I wanted outright, so I did that. And then I ended up spending another $20 to get it in the floor length version, because I do think it's more appropriate for black-tie. I ended up in http://www.seraphine.com/us/emerald-sleeveless-maxi-knot-dress.html but this company has a lot of nice, formal maternity wear that would also work. My good friend was also pregnant at this wedding (her due date was literally 3 days away) and she wore a strapless bridesmaid dress from Target dress that isn't maternity, but totally worked and she said it was only $50!

I have seen quite a few pregnant women in this particular floor length sequin dress by Badgley Mischka and they have all looked amazing.

@Little Misters Mom: Was going to suggest this site. I used it a couple of times during my last pregnancy and really liked it.

ETA: Target also had some nice formal maternity dresses, if I remember correctly.

I'm sure a cocktail dress will be fine, but I personally think a baby bump in a floor length dress looks super glamorous!

I'm going to what I assume is a black tie wedding (evening event in central park) and will be just shy of 5 months.

I decided to definitely go floor length, but it's not really a "gown." But I figured I could dress it up with jewelry so I don't totally stick out, and that way I'd be more comfortable. It's just a simple floor length black dress.

You don't need floor length for black tie, as long as it's a fancy cocktail dress.

They are a Rent the Runway style site for maternity wear. Never used it myself though.

I don't think you ever NEED a floor length dress for black tie. COcktail length is totally appropriate. I"ve been to three black tie weddings while pregnant and wore knee length dresses to all!

Technically it should be floor length, but at all the black tie events I have been to, women have a lot of leeway and a good 50 percent wear cocktail even not pregnant!

I think at 7 months pregnant you get a lot of leeway. Plus, in my experience "black tie" is often somewhat flexible for ladies- like a fancy cocktail dress with the right jewelry and shoes is fine for any lady there, so especially so for a pregnant one.

We have a black tie wedding when I will be 7 months pregnant. I'm thinking of either getting a dress from thred-up or a rent the runway type of site for maternity wear, since I will literally wear this dress once! My question is, can I get away with a cocktail dress or do I need a floor length dress? Any sites to rent fancy maternity dresses?
