@Corduroy: Oh well, I guess it might be worth it to give it another try. But yeah sometimes I don't know what makes them happy/unhappy.

@Pumuckl: I tried leaving them open about 8 inches last night. LO woke up crying but the sun hadn't come up yet so it wasn't a very good test.

Maybe she's just a happier camper at Grandma & Grandpa's.

@Corduroy: Can you try by letting them open a little whether it improves her mood in the mornings?

We had floor to ceiling blackout panels, without them, it was pretty bright in my son's room. I don't think his waking up in a certain mood was the function of the blackout panels, but my son was never a happy riser. He still isn't to this day, at almost 4 years of age.

This is an interesting question! I'd love to hear more about it. I can't have my room be too light for sleeping, but I do find I waking up easier if there's light in my room. That's why I purchased one of those alarm clocks that slowly starts to brighten up before it's time to rise and shine.

We have blackout shades too and they keep the room very very dark, though not absolutely blacked out (prob about the same as a nightlight). C usually wakes up happy and plays with her loveys, even though I don't know how she sees them!

I've thought about transitioning her away from the total blackout blinds, to make it easier to sleep away from home, but then I remember how early it gets light in te summer and I don't want her up at 5 and I keep them.

Not sure this is scientific but we don't have black out shades and LO almost always wakes up happy. :silly: we have basic mini blinds and curtains.

Wow, that's such a good question. We have black out shades and my LO wakes up miserable every morning and wails until we come and get her. :meh:

I had my LO at my parents for 10 days recently and she miraculously started waking up fairly happy. She was sitting in her crib chatting with her 'baby.' She never does that at home. I'm wondering if her room is too dark. She has a nightlight but it's still pretty dark. At my parents house the room was very bright.

If you have blackout shades do you do anything to help your LO see in the morning?
