It is very thick and I never worried about it getting tangled because it can't really knot itself up like the AA swaddles can. I don't think 10 months is too old for a sleep sack but if he doesn't like it, I'd just double up on layers or turn the heat up in his room if necessary. I will say, she would always kick it off and cuddle it rather than sleep under it.
