Update - the director passed the buck a few times but finally did some research and found some irregularities in how things are being managed and promised to fix it. She credited our account by the amount I feel we are out from the clothing.

Yeah, I'd be worried about it getting on her skin, yuck. Until it was fixed I'd probably go buy some old clothing from a thrift store that I didn't care about to send her in, just so that nothing else nice came back ruined.

That is pretty scary. I'd be pissed and very scared for LO's safety if chemicals that concentrated were left where they would touch her skin.

@mediagirl: >:( Dilute bleach doesn't do that. Somewhere there is straight up bleach or something caustic... the daycare needs to find out where it is and fix it. If my son came home like that I'd be pissed.
His school clothes always come him with marker, paint, boogers, blood, food marks on his sleeves (my kid is gross), etc, but I expect that. Bleach is a whole different matter. I'd be pissed.
I hope your email is enough to get the ball rolling on this.

Director responded. Only said she would look into it tomorrow. Said they don't use bleach at all but use a pre-mixed eco-lab solution. I guess I'll send my kid in all white until it's sorted out. Ha. <--not really laughing

@2littlepumpkins: Yeah, I agree now that she added the picture. That's more than 1:10, except maybe the last pic. I ruined more than a few shirts with the solution and the stains were definitely less bright.

So I would be really glad they're bleaching throughout the day with all the crap going around right now but would still approach it the same as @pregnantbee:

Also.. in my experience 1:10 bleach solution doesn't leave marks that look like that on all fabrics... Don't take my word for it but I'd be thinking that looks more like just bleach.

@pregnantbee: thanks!
@T.H.O.U.: sent an email. Used the words "toxic chemicals" but also thanked them for being clean. After talking to the other teacher it makes me worried that maybe they are leaving bleach products where they shouldn't be.

@Hoots: yes totally and I want them to be clean! I find it weird that my daughter has been in daycare since 13 weeks and yet this is the first time we have run into this. Of course they have to be her brand new/favorite things, too. Sigh.

@Ms. RV: She's 3. Totally in undies. And this is something that has only happened in the past two weeks, with one other time a few months ago. I talked to one of the teachers there who said they are only supposed to be using the bleach product after the kids leave. So something isn't right.

I know the state had really strict rules on cleaning products and dilution when I worked in a daycare, so they might not be able to do much about the product or strength used. We had to use a 1 part bleach to 10 parts water solution that had to be made daily to clean surfaces. BUT the bleaching the clothing is an issue. I'd just be straight with the director and tell her that bleach stains have become an issue and see what she says. If they can't do anything about the solution, you could at least ask she remind staff that things need to be dry before the kids touch them.

Is LO in diapers? My daycare cleans their changing station with diluted bleach after each kid. If the station is not 100% dry bleach can get on their clothes. Maybe this is the case with your DCP? Or maybe someone didn't dilute the bleach enough by accident?

ETA: trying to figure out what the root cause is before suggesting how to deal with it

I agree with praising for cleaning, but also think about the dilution of the products they are using directly around the kids. Chemical smells and what if that were to touch their skin directly. I would suggest maybe they use a more diluted product during the day and save the strong bleach stuff for after kids go home.

Not cool. I'd first praise them for cleaning....and then mention that she has come home at least twice with bleached clothes. And then wonder if some of the more harsh chemicals can be used after they close rather than throughout the day?

Please help me figure out a calm and cool way of handling this situation. Three times now, my daughter has come home from school with bleach stains on her clothing. Three times. Always on pants or bottoms of long shirts. It appears they are cleaning during the day (great!) with bleach products that are still wet when she sits or rubs up against the area.

How would you bring this up with the director/teacher? I know for sure it was the school on two occasions as both items were so new, they had not been washed yet.

Added pic collage.
