Could it be thrush? It was super painful nursing when I had thrush. If so I recommend grapefruit seed extract pills they were the only thing that worked for me.

In regards to lecithin, I was able to find it at Walgreens but the pills were HUGE so I stopped taking them. Unusually have zero issues taking pills but these ones would get stuck in my throat every time and make me gag.

Well now the site of the redness burns deeply after feeding and it's so tender I can barely hold LO. I don't have a fever or feel otherwise run down so I don't know if it's mastitis or just a clogged duct.

This sucks. We've been doing football rather than cross cradle for the past few feedings and that at least helps the pain during the feeding.

Anybody have burning with a clogged duct?

Try soaking your affected breast with epsom salt prior to breastfeeding. 2 teaspoons to 1 cup of water. Dissolve with a small amount of hot water and then add the remaining amount of water to cool down the mixture. I would soak my breast for about a minute, and it worked pretty well each time I felt a clog was about to come. It saved me when I had to wean from exclusively pumping.

Can you try a different nursing hold so LO's latch is applying pressure to a different part of the nipple? Some sources also recommend "dangle" nursing to help clear clogged ducts.

Good luck and hope you get it sorted soon!

Holy what? These exist? I thought I had heard everything. Just one more thing to look forward to!... sorry you are having to deal with this. I am interested in how this resolves.

@ladyfingers: hm, it could be the beginnings of a bleb, or just a pugged duct. You could put some antibiotic ointment on it to prevent infection. I always also kept a cotton ball with olive oil on the nipple to keep it moist and help clear the blocked duct. But yeah, moist heat and compress will help eventually, but it's. It always immediate. Sorry!

Well it wasn't a raised bump but still I assumed it was a bleb. I did some warm compresses and picked a bit to loosen any dead skin and it opened up a little but there's blood beneath. Now I'm like... What have I done. I think I may have made things worse :(

Can you see the blister (like a white dot on the nipple)? If so, you could use a sterile needle and pull outward to basically pop it, and once you see milk flowing, pump or nurse right away. Just be very clean and careful so as not to start an infection. http://kellymom.com/bf/concerns/mother/nipplebleb/

Oh crap, those suck! My sympathies...it took a few days to go away, I nursed regularly on it even though it hurt since I also had the clogged duct on the same side (I think I pumped to hard to cause the blister). I expressed milk on it when done feeding, let it dry, then smothered it in lanolin. Haven't tried lecithin yet, but Kelly Mom had an article about it.

What do you do for these? All I can find online is "nursing and warm compresses) but I didn't know if there was more to it. I have one and it feels like LO has razor sharp vampire teeth when he nurses from that side. Can I do anything to resolve it more quickly? I also have some redness on the breast further back (toward my chest) but in line with the bleb so obviously I'd like to prevent mastitis.

I have also heard talk of lecithin for helping with clogged ducts. Where do you buy this and how much do you take daily?
