Thank you all - it's reassuring to know that others experienced bleeding/spotting for awhile afterwards.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: My practice does them at 38 weeks. I think they're not that informative unless you're trying to assess favorability for an induction, but I figured why not. If they offer again at my 39 week appt, I'll decline unless there's a more pressing reason...

Dumb question, why the cervical checks? My doctors never did them.

Yep, after each one. My doc warned me each time. And as I got closer, the bleeding increased. It stuck around for 1-3 days, gradually turning brown. And the cervical checks hurt a lot as I got closer as he wanted to try to stretch me to encourage labor. I did lose my mucus plug as a result of one check.

Yep, every time, pink spotting for 1-2 days, and it freaked me out. I believe the nurse asked me about the color and the amount, but she said it's very common.

I bled for sure. Not red blood for days, but spotting did continue for a couple days.

thinking about it more, i did see more little pieces of tissue and possibly brown blood for a couple days after, but don't think i saw more red blood after the first time. it it's brown i generally didn't worry as much.

i did have this around like 35 weeks and was surprised because it was the first time in my whole pregnancy i saw red blood. it wasn't really a gush though, more like light (for me) period bleeding, and tapered quickly and when i called my doctor she was like, should have mentioned it was a possibility, it's completely normal. definitely was nervewracking though! i think then it happened once more at a later check. the checks really didn't feel rough when they were happening but i guess you are pretty tight/sensitive at that point!

@Autumnmama79: Ugh, that sounds terrifying. I hate bleeding during pregnancy.

@DesertDreams88: Good point, I hadn't even thought about that causing more bleeding from a cervical check.

The bleeding is probably more due to your low platelets.

Yes I had this following an aggressive check at 24 weeks. Bled a huge gush convincing me baby had been lost. It went on for a full day and a half during which I remained in hosp for monitoring. Everything was fine and baby arrived at 41 weeks

The message I’ve always got is brown blood is old and is okay to be seeing from time to time, even while pregnant. Big hugs, it is so scary to see!!

Did anyone bleed/spot after a cervical check, and for how long?

I had one three days ago and bled fairly heavily (like period bleeding) for about the first hour. It then tapered off, but I'm still experiencing periodic brown blood tinged mucous three days later (internet seems to mostly say it should taper off after 24 hours). It will seem to stop and then come back. Anyone have this experience?
