Wow, thank you everyone for your responses. I had no idea this was common, and pretty much had given up hope. Hopefully there will be good news come Friday, but trying to not get excited.

I had spotting, but not heavy bleeding. My bff had heavy bleeding several times (described it as a murder scene one of the times), "knew" it was all over because she also had cramping, but just had her son three weeks ago!

I had such a heavy bleed with my third pregnancy that it never crossed my mind to test. I filled pads for five days. When iI finally realized I was pregnant I was already ten weeks. I'm almost thirty weeks now.

Yep. I wound up going to the ER with my second LO because I thought for sure it was over. LO1 the same thing but they had me come in for a regular appointment for that. It was really scary but my girls are 1.5 and 3!

I also had subchorionic hematoma. My doctor explained it's when the placenta doesn't fully attach at first and it's trying to. My doctor said it's actually pretty common but had me come in for weekly vaginal U/S the first 8-12 weeks till the bleeding stopped. I carried to term - he's 9.5 months now!

I was pretty scared during the whole process.

Good luck to you!!

Yep, I had this happen, and I have an adorable 6 month old as a result. Mine was heavy - I thought it was a period and used tampons for a few days. After I had the "period" I got a positive OPK right away. Someone urged me to do a pregnancy test, so I did thinking that it would be negative and it was positive. I was sure I had had a chemical pregnancy and it was residual hcg, but it was a pregnancy with a subchorionic hematoma.

I had quite a lot of bleeding in the first trimester and it was super scary and stressful but the pregnancy survived and carried to term and is now my 6 month old

Me. I had a very heavy bleed at 6 weeks (multiple pads worth) that lasted for about 3 hours. I did not have stomach cramps, but I had period-like pain in my back. I thought for sure it was over. I went to my re the next day and they saw a heartbeat. I was diagnosed with a subchorionic hematoma. I had another big (although not as large as the first) bleed at 9 weeks and it the the sch again and baby was/is okay. Hoping yours is something similar!!!

I went off birth control exactly 1 month ago. I had a very light period last week. I have not been testing.

This morning I was talking to someone at work and had to run to the restroom and had almost soaked through my pants with blood. It was heavy for about 30 minutes then ceased. I have had mild cramping all day. I called the nurse and took a pregnancy test - positive. They had me come in and do blood work and will do so again in 2 days to test HCG levels.

Anyone out there experience anything like this and go on to carry to term? The nurse wouldn't give me any indication either way and I find it hard to believe this can happen and it not be a miscarriage.
