Oh no! I'm so sorry, mastitis and blocked ducts are the worst! For me, I'd feel the lump go away immediately once we got it, but it was still sore (but not white hot painful) for a couple of days.

My two go-to remedies were:
1. Putting a rice sock on the blockage nonstop
2. Having my husband massage it out. I'd go on all fours (to use gravity to help pull it out) and he would massage the heck out of it (milk going everywhere, use a towel!) until he got it. *ETA this sometimes would take two to three hours and we wouldn't always get it in one session but he was so much more effective at massaging it out than I was!

I don't know if this is a recurring thing for you, but after about my fifth blocked duct, I started taking lecithin, just a teaspoon in my cereal in the morning, and I never got one again. I really hope you feel better soon!

@sorrycharlie: if it was just a blocked duct I felt it go away right but it was still tender. If it was mastitis, sometimes it would be a day before the hardness went away..

For me the pain would still be there for the rest of the day even after I cleared the blockage. If I also had mastitis it took 2-3 days of rest and lots of fluids for it to feel better (without Meds). Also, if you still feel a lump, you may have some residual blockage left behind? You may want to keep up with the massage and try pumping again later... Glad you got it flowing through. Blocked ducts are the worst!

So I have mastitis - ugh!! - and a blocked duct the size of a golf ball. It is unbearably painful.

Earlier I pumped that side for 10 min and literally got 3 drops. I took a hot shower, massaged, etc again then went back to pump. Almost immediately I got an oz in 3 min! I was hopeful I cleared it, but the lump is still there and it's painful.

How long after you cleared a block did the lump go away? Instantly? I leave for vacation Sunday morning, this sucks!
