Just an update... The results are back. No UTI which is great but there was a trace of blood present in the urine. The doctor said if he has no other symptoms don't worry it could have been from his diaper rash ( ummm there was no broken skin and he wasnt the same doctor that saw it) we are going to get a second opinion. I don't think blood in the urine is something to brush off?

@Mrs squirreld: That must be stressful but try not to worry. My friend's baby had a UTI and while they don't feel well, with some antibiotics it goes right away. Praying for good news!

@Mrs squirreld: ugh not getting answers/reassurance right away is so frustrating, I'm sorry :( I hope everything turns out to be fine, just a random thing. I know I'd be worried sick so I don't want to minimize, but I'm sure he will be just fine!

When DS was maybe 3 months I somehow accidentally pinched his penis in the diaper (still not at all sure how it happened, but he yelped a little when I put the diaper on), and it left a few spots of blood in the diaper when I went to change him. I freaked out when I saw the blood, but figured out what had happened and that was the end of it. I hope your little guy is ok!

Doctor said it does looks like blood, but couldn't be 100% without tests. So we have to collect a urine sample and send it away for testing which can take 3-4 days. Urgh! If it gets worse or his condition changes we are to take him to ER. She did says physically he looks fine, he's alert, no fever etc. It could be a UTI and if it is he will have to undergo further testing as it is rare for babies this young to have them. Sooooo basically we don't know anything. He has done a few wees since and there hasn't been any blood... So yeah I still don't know anything and won't until his results are back. :-/

H had that happen early on and I freaked out. We took him in to see the doctor that day and showed them the diaper (disposable) and it turned out it was sediment in his urine, called "brick dust" because it's the color of bricks. So weird and so terrifying.
Keep us posted!

We had this happen. We brought in the diaper, and then they put a little bag on him so that they could collect his urine. Turns out it was the way that the diaper filtered sediment in his urine. It wasn't even blood.... although it looked just like a dot of blood to me. It ended up being nothing at all. He did it a few more times.... but hasn't done it in months.

Has anyone had any experiences with this? LO is 10 weeks old and at the past nappy change there was what looked like blood in his diaper. I rang health direct (which is a 24hr medical advice line here) and they said to see a doctor. I have an appt in an hour but meanwhile I am freaking out. Anyone have a similar experience/idea what it might be? He isn't dehydrated, doesn't have a fever.
