I've heard the same... that many women fail the first and pass the 2nd. I failed the first and was high enough that they were nice enough to say let's not make yo go through the 2nd... you have GD. If you do have it, don't worry. It's a pain, but not terrible, and it will very likely go away as soon as you give birth. It does give you a much better appreciation for what you do eat! Ps. m dad is Type 1 diabetic, so my chances of getting it were higher than most.

I failed my 1 hour and passed the 3 hour. It was really not that bad! Just make sure to bring water/snacks so you can eat immediately after you're done.

I failed my one-hour this pregnancy and had to do the 3-hr. It wasn't bad (except realize it is actually 4 blood draws not 3, I didn't think about the one before you drink the glucose solution). If you have a tablet PC or smartphone, make sure it is charged. I did mine at a lab where they would do the blood draw, give me the time for the next draw then send me to wait in the general waiting area; luckily they had free wi-fi so I watched Netflix on my Kindle Fire to pass the time. However DH had used the KF last and didnt' charge it so the last hour seemed to take forever since I didn't have anything to do.
I know others have had different experiences where they were in a special waiting area that had a TV, etc. You might want to check out the lab accommodations beforehand if you haven't been there. Oh and the lab I was at was FREEZING, they ended up giving me a warmed blanket because I was shivering by the end.

I just found out I failed the hour test too. I had no idea milk had a lot of sugar! I had honey nut Cheerios and like just before so I hope that's the real reason. Sigh...

Definitely take stuff to do with you- my ipod and kindle were lifesavers! They wouldn't let me go for a walk, have food or water, which not being able to do any of those three things is my own personal hell!

I did and thankfully passed the 3 hour test. I'm not gonna lie, it was no fun and made me feel so sick. I recommend taking a snack so you can eat something as soon as they'll let you and something to keep you entertained. I also had my DH there to drive after, which was really nice, because I had the shakes so badly.

Yup- it sucks!

Once I announced that I failed, I found out that so many others I knew failed that one too, made me feel better.

Advice- lots of protein, less crap food a few days before, lots and lots of water too. After your test, don't go out and eat a lot of carbs- you will want to! My nurse told me to chug a bottle of water once all the testing was done, go get a turkey sandwich, drink another bottle of water and take a nap. I felt like hell right after the test, but after the sandwich and nap I felt awesome the rest of the day.

^ This. A friend of mine said the diet really helped her manage her weight gain, so there is a silver lining even if you ended up dx'd with GD.

I hear that a lot of women fail the first but pass the second. If you fail the second, though don't worry too much. It isn't a horrible diet, you just have to watch what you're eating for a few more months. A friend of mine recently went through it and didn't have too much trouble with it.

I failed the first but passed the second. Good luck!

My advice is to bring something to do, it's very boring. And bring a snack that you can eat right when you finish because you'll be starving.

I found out today that I failed my one hour gestational diabetes test (GD), so now I have to go in next week and do the dreaded three hour test. EW!

My appointment is Wednesday morning at 7:30. On the bright side I'll be done at about 10:30 and my whole day won't be wasted.

Anyone else experience this?
