Thanks for this post @MH.Abroad - I'm scheduling my pre pregnancy ob appt this week and can mentally prep myself for the poking and pricking. :)

Wow! So, I had like 8 blood draws with my miscarriage. And then, I opted out of the bloodwork to confirm the pregnancy, but they made me do a quantitative hCG series (2) later. Then... 2 other days of tests, and then since then 3 more tests and I still haven't done either of the glucose tests--plus one more next visit in 3 weeks. Why do they want so much more of my blood than everyone else's?

you're lucky you don't have to do ivf! (knock on wood) i was getting blood tests every month or so. i think more. i may have blocked it out of my head haha. hated it. still hate it.

so far, during pregnancy, i had major blood drawn (like 8 vials) during my first appointment with my ob. then, in week 16, i had some blood drawn (for the nt scan - i think you can opt out of it). then week 26, i got blood drawn for the glucose test. (that one really hurt)...

now, i'm 27, going on 28 weeks and not sure how many more (i doubt there'll be more but who knows).... GOOD LUCK!

I got a LOT of blood drawn. I think about 6 times for this pregnancy
I had it done at my doctors to confirm pregnancy and then again
-at my first OB appointment {A lot was taken this time}
-for my NT screening
-for Spina Bifida
-For urine analysis
-for glucose test

I also started out my pregnancy TERRIFIED of needles but honestly you just gotta find a place to go to while they take blood, because I realized freaking myself out everytime was just not the way to go.
at first I would just close my eyes and look away, so I didnt have to see the needle going in and that helped calm my panic, but now I can look right at it while she does it.

So far at 17 weeks, I've had my blood drawn 3 times. They took a ton of blood at the first appt. for various testing, and then twice for the sequential screen. I think they draw it during the glucose test as well, and you'll have to get the rhogam shot if you are rh-, but others who are further along can confirm for sure.

Not too often. It just depends how healthy you are I think. When I first got pregnant they took 11 tubes of blood, but it was only so many because I'm Jewish so I had to see if I'm a carrier for certain things.

Hardly ever. I think once? I did get regular finger pricks at the office to check for iron levels.

TONS... and it'll help you deal with your fear of needles. I used to pass out with needles. (No, I'm not kidding, Sometimes I used to throw up, too.) Yesterday I was able to watch the lady put the needle in my arm...

So I just went and had a full blood analysis and urine analysis done to check for any problems or deficiencies. I get the results later today.
The point of this was for pre-ttc, to make sure I'm healthy before we start trying. I'm doing it now so that I have a couple months to fix any deficiencies they may find. But here is the problem -
I REALLY, REALLY, REALLY hate needles. Like, I totally made my husband come into the room with me and hold my hand, I closed my eyes and buried my head in his shoulder and starting breathing so fast I almost passed out.
And I got to thinking - just how many needles and blood tests am I going to have to endure during pregnancy?

How often did you get your blood drawn during pregnancy?
