@banana: That's awesome! He STTN (no feeds) usually once a week. I'm hoping he drops it on his own soon.

@mrs.wagon: after the self-soothe, he fell back asleep for another 1.5 hours....for a 2 hour nap!

@BabyBruins: I'm hoping to switch from 3 to 2 soon, too. Today he took a 1 hour morning nap, then a 2 hour afternoon nap then has been sleeping for about 30 minutes (it's 3:45) but I'm not sure if it will be possible soon since he usually only sleeps 10 hours at night (leaving 14 hours during the day). Everyone said just to hang in there and he would outgrow it around 6 months. I didn't believe it, but it looks like it's happening.....

@mrs. wagon: awwww. she freaked out?? So cute but so sad at the same time!! Yeah, maybe she's not ready for not being swaddled yet. Have you tried swaddling with one arm out so that she can find her hand?

@banana: that's awesome!! LMW is still not really finding her hand... well, she's just not ready to be not swaddled yet. We tried the tummy nap thing which worked for her first nap for 45 mins, then she stirred then FREAKED OUT. Next nap was a total fail-- she fell asleep in my arms then slept for 10 mins on her tummy, then fREAKED OUT. I rocked her to sleep again, 10 mins later FREAK OUT. She tried to suck on her hand but wasn't soothed enough by it. Gah. I don't think she's ready yet :(

Yay!!!!!! Hope he continues on this awesome nap pattern!!!! My DD started consistently SSTN starting last week and it's AWESOME. The biggest factor was her ability to self soothe, which helps her fall back asleep on her own. She still wakes up a few times at night, but I let her find her hand and she just goes back to sleep on her own. Looks like your LO is doing the same! Yiippee!!!

@winniebee: six months was the changing point for my little guy too. I think it was a combo sleep training and just being older, but he went from me having to hold him for all of his naps to sleeping 1 hour + in his own in his crib. We switched from 3 to 2 naps around this time also.
Yay for sleep progress!!!!

Something interesting happened today. He woke up crying after 30 minutes and I left him there and after 5 minutes of pretty hysterical crying he fell back asleep and has been sleeping for 30 more minutes. I tried this many times in the past and he used to just keep crying. Amen!

@winniebee: oh and I swear, LMW is the opposite of what is supposed to happen in babies. The days when we are out and about and keep her up for more than 2 hours between horrible naps (naps while in motion in the carrier or car or stroller that only last 30 mins, or sometimes even 10 mins) she ends up sleeping like crazy. The past 2 weeks she's taken HOURS to go down at bedtime, finally being down for good around 8:30 or 9pm and sleeping for about 6 hours. Last night after a crazy day out and about and a later bedtime, she was down for good at 7:30pm and slept for 9.5 hours!!!!

@mamajaja: I don't think he's overtired....this morning he was up for 2.5 hours before his morning nap and wasn't fussy at all. I think there will still be some trial and error here (as yesterday his longest nap was from 3:15-4:45) but hopefully within the next few weeks a good schedule will emerge. The past few days he has taken 3 naps which is better than what he was doing when we were in the 30 minute nap trenches (4-5 naps a day!)

Fingers crossed for you! We are going through the EXACT same thing, LO naps almost identical to yours. I just put her down actually for her first nap, here's hoping it's longer than 30 min!

So lengthening your LO's awake time didn't make him overtired? I think I've been so worried about making her overtired I keep her awake times pretty short these days. Will have to try your method soon.
