@yoursilverlining: We bring all of our own food - daycare does not provide it.

@Weagle: HAHA!

Mine just opens his mouth like a bird waiting for me to put pieces in his mouth when he can't do it himself.

@Weagle: haha my LO does the same thing sometimes with puffs! If they get stuck to her palm, she can't figure out how to eat them and will get frustrated. So I'll put them on my open hand for her to try to pick up; but usually she will just lean forward and nom them right off my hand. :)

Will your daycare provide him appropriately sized finger foods?

Our daycare provides infants who are learning to eat with smaller pieces of what they are serving everyone for lunch – so every day LO has the option to eat some sorts of fresh fruits and veggies and then whatever the “main” dish is. She loves pasta so she eats that when they have pasta, cheese pieces, bread, some meat, etc.

I also usually send her with some veggies because she likes things they don’t usually serve like avocado chunks, olives, pickles, and grilled mushrooms and onions. Sometimes I also send her with more options like beans, cheese, etc.

Daycare also gives her puffs and yogurt melts whenever she wants them.

@winniebee: She can pretty well now. Puffs helped her learn. Though, sometimes she gets frustrated and moves them so she can bend over and pick them up with her mouth. Like this :)

@winniebee: Maybe something small like that will help him learn how to pace himself. I have to give only one or two at a time because she likes to stuff fistfuls into her mouth. Have the gas drops ready :)

@Weagle: He hasn't had beans yet - maybe I'll try those at home this weekend. He is still in the stage where he bites off more than he can chew and I have to fish out.

Will he eat beans? We have to cut LO off when it comes to black beans/peas/butter beans/chickpeas. You could also send avocado slices, super ripe pear, chunks of steamed veggies...

@mediagirl: I send probably 3 oz of food for breakfast and 4 oz for lunch. He doesn't "get" much from the BLW meal so far unless I put bits in his mouth. I just feel like the more he does it the better, and the daycare workers are all trained in CPR/choking and probably are more competent than me in that regard!

I have no idea. Haha. M is just a month behind T and she only gets one meal at daycare. I'm not totally comfortable with BLW yet either so, I'm not sure when we would start sending bigger things. Currently I just send 2oz of apples that I mashed with a potato masher (instead of pureeing).

If your baby does BLW, what meals and snacks do you send to daycare?

My son is 8.5 months old and previously we have just sent 2 meals (oatmeal/fruit for breakfast and a jar of puree for lunch) and some puffs/rice cakes. Today I sent banana chunks for a snack too.

He's still learning and hasn't eaten a HUGE variety of foods yet, but here's what I'm thinking of sending: Waffle strips, toast strips (with fruit), eggies, beef stew veggies/beef. Can't send cheese or dairy yet b/c he has an intolerance.

He needs a lot of help still with small bits, but I know he enjoys it and needs to practice.
