FWIW, we've been looking here, and at various bees' blog posts: http://www.babyledweaning.com/

And watching youtube videos... which are hilarious.

@MoonMoon: see if your library has an interlibrary loan request system! then they can get books from other libraries :)

@mjane: Nope--the book encourages waiting until 6 months, so I've decided to wait until November 24, when his due date would have been six months, because I want him to get to taste things at Thanksgiving! Haha. @MoonMoon: I don't think it is worth buying--I am sure there must be some BLW crash course on a blog post somewhere. It is kind of condescending to introducing food in other ways which is pretty annoying.

I didn't read the book. We just started introducing stuff that I thought he could handle - banana, avocado, etc. I would introduce a new food every 2-3 days. We are also doing purees, too. We occasionally give him stuff off our of plates, but usually he gets his own food to eat.

I'll be keeping a close eye on this thread too...I wish my public library system had a copy of this book-is it worth shelling out money for?

@JoJoGirl: Yes, same! I think once I saw how quickly she "purées" it with her hands, I realize that I may as well be giving her some when I feel like it!

@maybebaby @jojogirl come talk about this on the May 2013 board! :)

I'm being a lot less structured about this than I anticipated. Just giving her pieces of banana, avocado, and sweet potato so far and will try oatmeal this weekend probably. Making a bit batch of carrot purée now because I like the idea of having something in the freezer if we run out of fresh veggies. I think we will end up doing a mix of BLW and purées, I don't think they are mutually exclusive.

@maybebaby: Just saw this, but we are just starting, and I didn't wind up getting the book. We have been doing just one food every two days, it's just been stuff I've cut up or mashed specially for her, except today I fed her mango off my plate because it was so soft. I'm making sweet potatoes for us tonight and so she'll get those tomorrow or the next day. She'll get oatmeal a morning we have it, too... so I guess a combo of stuff we've had and stuff I've prepared for her? She's ingesting very little at this point, so I feel more blase then I thought I would!

No I started with purées at 4 months and then around 7 months he was eating actual food. I just cut stuff small and sought the advice of my fellow may 2012 mamas!

@maybebaby: No, I didn't read a book. We did a mix of homemade mashes & 'real foods' and introduced slowly, basically just giving him something that we were eating that night. He mostly just played with it at first until about 7.5 months, and then we started adding in a second 'meal'. Don't stress about it!

I did read this - http://www.amazon.com/Fearless-Feeding-Healthy-Eaters-School/dp/111830859X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1383878838&sr=8-1&keywords=fearless+feeding and really enjoyed it.

I had the BLW cookbook and I used it for a couple of recipes, but we would have been fine without it. I just tried different fruits and veggies and then later we started to give her parts of our meals (leftovers, really). We were pretty casual about it and just followed her lead. At 13 months, she eats everything and anything!

If you used BLW to introduce solids, did you follow the book as a guide? And if so, did you let baby join in on your healthy meals or give them other things? We are approaching 6 months and I've been reading BLW, but it sounds so intimidating to just let J pick and choose from what we're having rather than start one food at a time. Sorry, this is phrased weird.
