We started blw right at 6 months as well and I was very worried she wasn't getting enough. Then I read that with blw if they are under 1 it's just for fun. Their main nutrition is from breastmilk or formula till 1. Somewhere btw 8-9 months something turned on. She went from just sucking some little peas from a green bean at six month and now at almost 10 months she finished a whole avocado this past weekend.

A few weeks ago she had an ear infection. She was still nursing and drinking from a bottle fine but had no interest in solids. As soon as the infection was gone her interest in solids returned.

I totally failed at BLW. I offered for like 2 days and then gave up and started him on purees, which he gobbles up with gusto. At 8.5 months now (and with 6 teeth) he sometimes feeds himself but not often, and I'm trying to not worry about it. He is SO good with purees and I've started making them very chunky (usually with overcooked pasta, rice or quinoa, and chopped in the blender rather than pureed) and he doesn't struggle with them at all. I'll keep offering table foods but I'm happy with the amount he's consuming in purees.

I would just keep offering daily but not push it. Maybe try alternating with purees as well to see if he's interested in that. Some babies just aren't ready yet at 6 months! :)

We do the same as @Grace: finger foods first, then a purée to make sure she gets some actual food in her belly. She gets way too hungry and cranky if we don't supplement with the purée, but she just won't eat enough finger food to fill herself up.

My thoughts are that babies doesn't understand that things on the table are food until they have been offered it for a long time. We did a mix of BLW and purees with DD and she wouldn't even hold the food until just before 10 months, but would nibble from our hands if we offered. She really started to get into it around 10.5 months.

Keep in mind it doesn't have to be all or nothing. We offered LO finger foods on her tray while we ate meals at the table. Some she tried, some she didn't, and some she played with. Then after we had had a chance to eat our meals, we gave her a puree if she wanted it. Worked great.

Also, it took a solid month for her to figure out that food was food and good to eat. You may just need to keep offering. Your LO is still quite young.

Blw actually didn't work for us. She did great with purees though! So through my personal experience I am not that into/ don't really believe in blw. (For my LO anyway! I know others had success...)

Purees seemed to be a much better intro.

Honestly, I think BLW is way over rated. DS was the same way at 6m - had absolutely no interest in what was on his tray. However, he would eat purees if I fed him. After a few months he showed more interest in eating the food on his tray. Now at 1 year I can mostly just give him a bunch of food on his tray he'll self feed. We also do some purees for veggies because he's not big on straight up broccoli or green beans and stuff. But super chunky pureed with a little apple sauce and he eats them up.

Yeah, I would continue to offer to get him into the habit of starting table food. It's good practice whether or not he actually eats it. My oldest ate purees FOREVER b/c he had no interest in finger food. My youngest started feeding himself with a spoon pretty steadily at 6 months and gobbled up finger foods like a champ.

I wouldn't worry. It took my guy about 3 or 4 months to really get "gumming" the food, enjoying the taste, texture, etc. We even did pureés for a little bit, but by 9 months he was eating everything we're eating. (With the caveat that he was still getting the majority of his calories from formula at that point.)

Of course, that did nothing to prevent him from being a picky eater now...

We started at 6 months and she wasn't really interested in solids or purees until 9.5-10 months. I still offered solids every day!

In theory, I love BLW. In reality, I think it's failing! My LO has shown zero interest. As in, doesn't even realize there is something on the table in front of him. SO, is he just not ready for solids in general? Should I wait until he shows more interest, or should I try to feed him bits and pieces? I was trying to avoid purees, but if he doesn't develop interest soon, I may just have to!
He's 6 months old, and seems to have no problem reaching for other objects that are in front of him (i.e. toys, etc). It's just that when there's food in front of him, all of a sudden he doesn't notice anything there at all!
