@heartonastring: Wow that is awesome! My LO is such a terrible solid eater, she makes the funniest grossed out face. I am feeding her purées right now.

My LO was and is a big eater. I often worry that he eats too much. My ped said that if he eats too much and throws up, then I will know it was too much. Otherwise don't worry about it. I don't think your meal looked too big. I would not worry, especially since you are giving BM in advance of solids. That said, I still bring up food intake at every well visit... I just need professional reassurance periodically!

I think the answer to this depends on your pediatrician. My 9.5 mo eats a lot as well. As a result, my supply has majorly dropped. Even though my baby still nurses/gets BM 7-9x/day, she is now only getting 16-20 ounces of BM a day, rather than the 26+ she was getting before starting solids. I used to pump 12-16 ounces at work - now I'm lucky if I get 8-9 ounces.

Because my ped is super liberal, her feeling is that weaning starts with solids and that the point is to get to a point where your baby is eating a lot if solids. So. She is totally okay with my baby's decreased milk intake, especially since her growth is steady and she is thriving. Ped even recommended starting a few ounces a day of cow's milk, which we did.

So, anyway, I think your baby's intake is totally fine as long as you are okay with it. Keep in mind, too, that your baby is only getting solids once a day. If you added more meals, she'd likely eat less at each meal.

I think that as long as you're feeding whole foods with lots of good protein and fat, AND you're still nursing as much as before, you're in good shape. If you see her weight start to drop off the curve, then maybe back off. But it sounds like you're doing it right.

DD will be 7 months in another week and a half. We started dabbling with BLW around 5.5 months and started doing dinner every night at 6 months. Up until that point she was EBF and she is still BF on demand about 6-8x in a 24 hour period.

DD took to solids pretty much immediately and eats like a champ. To the point that I'm now wondering if it's possible that she's eating too much in the way of solids. Is that even possible in BLW babies? Is this something I should even be concerned about? I do nurse her about an hour before each meal of solids. We haven't added breakfast or lunch yet.

Here's what she ate for dinner tonight: roasted zucchini spears, an egg muffin with red bell pepper and mushroom in it, strawberries in her mesh feeder and full-fat plain Greek yogurt mixed with some puréed apples and prunes. She ate it all and would have eaten more if I had offered...this is typical of pretty much every night.
