@cmomma17: sometimes it becomes a chicken and the egg thing; they can't practice unless you give it to them, and you don't want to give it to them because it seems like they can't do it :) I had been cutting up clementine slices (not sure why) and then LO grabbed a whole one and gobbled it up just fine, same with pear slices a while back. Babies are crafty!

Thanks everybody! C enjoyed some peas tonight! I mashed them a little - more so he would have clumps to pick up. He doesn't have the pincer grasp yet, but I was surprised by how easily he got some peas to his mouth!

@scg00387: agreed! Impossible to choke on something so small, he might just swallow it whole but it'll just get passed through his system. if you can squish it between your fingers then he can chew it with his gums.

I don't remember what age we started (once his grasp was good), but I would smush them in the beginning for him. I think around 7 (or 9?) months we just started giving them to him un-squished. They are two of our staples - he eats them no matter what!!

We also started around 7 months. I haven't done raisins yet but I give her quartered grapes. I just make sure everything is soft or small. She still only has 2 teeth at 10 months, but can eat anything!

We haven't done raisins, but have been doing beans, peas and similar foods by smashing enough with a fork to break the skin a little. By the time she gets it to her mouth and starts moving it around it's broken up pretty well. She's had beans since 6.5 months with no problems (she's 7.5 mo now).

I think peas and beans are fine now if he's able to pick them up! It's good practice for pincer grip! I don't think they can choke on peas. We started raisins when he was 10-11 months and he loves them and is able to gum them before swallowing.

@cmomma17: we have since prob 7 months. I don't think it's even possible to choke on a small pea! I wouldn't do raisins since they're so hard and gummy but otherwise we do peas, blueberries, quartered grapes,

I'm too scared to do peas, beans, raisins, etc.

When did you do it? How?
Talk me into it! :)
