My 3 weeker is taking 1.5-2 oz every 2 to 2.5 hrs., interspersed with some breastfeeding. We try to feed her .5 to 1 oz after each breast feed, to. She's small though (still not quite 5 lbs).

That's what B took while 10 days old so it seems okay to me. J sometimes took even more because she started spacing her feedings pretty much from the get go. We were down to 6 feedings at less than a month.

I feel like if you're doing all the "right" things and he's not spitting up, then let him have milk? It does seem like a lot to me b/c DD never went above 5 oz the whole year she was on bm/formula haha!

Congrats!! I love seeing updates from the October mamas!!

M was routinely taking 4 oz bottles in by two weeks. (DH gives her formula before bed as part of their bedtime routine) She gained over 3 lbs in her first month. Now, she's starting to take even more, hovering about 4.5-5 oz for now; DH offers 2 more ounces if she still seems hungry. Our pediatrician advised that if they take too much, they'll just spit up and you can reduce what you offer at the next feeding. Now that I'm starting to pump, I know she's getting at least 4 oz at each feed, since that's what I'm pumping from each side!

My child is not normal. I think a normal 2 week old takes about 2 oz. But my monster took 5. We did a weighted feeding with the lactation consultant at 5 day and he took 5 oz from one breast. No wonder he was gaining a lb a week!

I was told 2-4oz every 2-4hours. So sounds in the right range to me! I think he'd spit up if it was too much

When we were still in the hospital they wanted to give DD3 formula because of hypoglycemia. The nurses would give us 20ml but the NICU doctor insisted that she get 50ml based on her size. I think that only translates to ~2oz. This was for her very first day though. By two weeks I'm sure she'd need more than that. AJ was a big boy so I'm sure his needs are higher than average.

@T.H.O.U.: Yes and yes! We pace based on his breathing issue in NICU so now it is a norm
I know I said "chugs" but I guess I mean definitely drinks it all not forced

Same questions as @T.H.O.U.: first thing I would do is make sure you're paced feeding (you can find good descriptions of this from Kelly Mom if you need it). Basically mimics the slower way they get milk from BFing.

ETA: I found this helpful! http://kellymom.com/bf/pumpingmoms/feeding-tools/bottle-feeding/

Wow that seems like a LOT. Is he still really sleepy and going long between feedings? Also are you using slow flow nipples and pacing the feedings/

Just curious as what is the norm of oz for a 2 week old to eat of breast milk?!

DS can down 3oz and seem as if he wants more
4oz seems to make him happy!

I feel like that is so much but he chugs it and never spits up......
