@BoogieBea: yes, they have kids of catan which my three year olds play. It's cute and fun. Then they have junior catan which my 6 year old niece plays. They are great simplified versions of the original game. I highly recommend them to families who like settlers.

@Mrs. Train: There's a kids version? How cool! I love settlers.

LO hasn't started playing board games yet but I will introduce him to go fish and candyland soon since that's what we have at home.

My nieces are 3 and 5 and they love Richard Scarrey's Busytown. There aren't really "winners" so you work together to reach the destination.

We've been working on Memory, Go Fish, and Candy Land with DD, but she's not quite there yet. :) I'm so excited for her to get to the point of playing board games, though!

What kind of board games does your preschooler or young school-ager play?

My DD (almost 5) plays: UNO (Hello Kitty version), Candyland, Hi Ho Cherry O, Memory (Dora version), and Zingo. I want to teach her Old Maid and Go Fish. Her BFF brought over Sequence for Kids during our last play date, which looked really fun. Games have helped a lot with teaching rules, taking turns, and losing gracefully! It is also amazing what their little minds can grasp.

I grew up playing a ton of board games, so I'm excited for her!
